Invincible: Omni-Man's Betrayal Is Even More Messed Up In the Comics

Warning! Spoilers for the Invincible comic and television series below!

In both the Invincible comic book and animated series, Omni-Man brutally murdered the greatest heroes on Earth: the Guardians of the Globe. However, in the original scene from the Image Comics series, Omni-Man was much more decisive in killing his former superhero allies, as they barely stood a chance against his incredible strength and power.

Invincible was created by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), with Cory Walker, Ryan Ottley, Russ Wooton, and Bill Crabtree being important parts of the comic book's creative team. The series debuted in 2003 and ran for 144 issues for over 15 years, becoming one of the most popular creator-owned comics of all time. Invincible told the story of Mark Grayson, the son of Earth's greatest hero, Omni-Man. But, once he gets his own powers, he soon finds out his dad isn't a good guy at all. The series was recently adapted into an animated series on Amazon Prime Video, which just wrapped up its first critically acclaimed season.

The animated series was very faithful to the comic, although certain scenes were expanded on in the show, including the epic finale featuring Invincible taking on Omni-Man in an extremely bloody and savage battle. Another moment that was also expanded upon for the series was Omni-Man's handling of the Guardians of the Globe. While in the show, he exchanged mammoth blows with the heroes before killing off the entire team, in the comics, he was much more precise. In Invincible #7, he kills the team without even taking a scratch.

If readers didn't understand how powerful Omni-Man was before, the few pages of the hero going full-villain certainly illustrate his strength. He kills the strongest superteam on Earth without any pushback. In the comic, Omni-Man doesn't fake his own injury at the crime scene but instead carries on with his normal life not even remotely emotionally impacted by the incident.

The Invincible animated series opted to expand the scene and have the heroes put up much more of a fight against Omni-Man. While that might have been intentional to show their own strength as a group, the comic opted for a much more direct approach. Omni-Man killed his Guardians of the Globe teammates and went back to his home with Debbie and Mark like nothing had occurred. While the comic shows less, it really reveals how messed up Omni-Man was, as he kills his so-called mentors and friends without batting an eye. Invincible had some really graphic moments, but few are as brutal as Omni-Man's takedown of the Guardians of the Globe.
