Marvel's Wastelanders Trailer Features Old Man Star-Lord & Older Rocket

Marvel and SiriusXM have released the trailer for their first original scripted podcast, Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord. Previously, Marvel dove into audio storytelling with two Wolverine-centric series co-produced with Stitcher. For their latest podcasting endeavor, it seems that the the media giant has instead partnered with SiriusXM and opted for Guardians of the Galaxy over X-Men as their central characters.

Now, Marvel has released the trailer for Wasterlanders: Old Man Star-Lord. Starring Timothy Busfield (The West Wing) and Chris Elliott (Schitt's Creek) as Star-Lord and Rocket, respectively, the podcast centers on an alternate future where Dr. Doom presides over an Earth ruled by supervillains. Returning to the now-desolate planet after a 30-year absence, the older but not-much-wiser Guardians must survive a murderer's row of deadly foes if they want to restore Earth to its former glory. Premiering on June 1st, the 10-episode series will be released weekly on the SiriusXM app, Pandora, Sticher, and all other major podcast platforms. Listen to the trailer in full below:

Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord also features the voice performances of Nadine Malouf, Vanessa Williams, Danny Glover, and more. While the show's interesting premise and top-notch cast provides plenty of excitement already, Stephen Wacker, Vice President and Head of Content, Marvel New Media, said during today's announcement that the show is just the "tip of the iceberg" for Marvel's expansion into original audio content. Read Wacker's statement below:

Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord is a story that throws you right into the action, antics – and danger – that fans of Star-Lord and Rocket know to expect, and the writers, cast and crew did not hold back. We couldn’t be prouder of how this story came together. This series is just the first chapter of our larger Marvel’s Wastelanders plans with SiriusXM, and Peter Quill’s story is only the tip of the iceberg for our new Marvel Audio Universe. We can’t wait to share what’s next with you all.

After last week's news that the next Guardians film will be James Gunn's last as director, fans of the galactic defenders will at least have the dulcet tones of Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord to comfort themselves as they wait for Gunn's swan song, expected in May 2023.
