Recently, an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player brought the world of Resident Evil Village to the Nintendo Switch exclusive. These two titles may sit on completely different sides of the gaming spectrum, yet they do have one thing in common - a village. Though it is worth remembering that while New Horizons fans answer polls about beloved villagers, RE Village players don't get to know many of the in-game locals at all - unless the bloodthirsty werewolves and mutants count.
Strangely, this isn't the most bizarre of Resident Evil Village's mashups, thus far. In the days leading up to release, a modder managed to drop several Barney the Dinosaurs in the dungeon section of the Castle demo. Another mod began making the rounds not too long thereafter, creepily swapping out Lady Dimitrescu's visage for that of Thomas the Tank Engine. The latest Resident Evil Village crossover most certainly counts among the most charming to date.
Reddit user masabow1018 recently shared a few screenshots of their RE Village x Animal Crossing: New Horizons mashup. One image showcases a map of the nameless village itself; the second screenshot places an eerily adorable Heisenberg front and center. House Beneviento and Donna occupy another of the Redditor's creations, while the final picture depicts a very angry Lady Dimitrescu. It's all oddly charming in a way, to say the least.
The tools available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons never cease to amaze. Each of the characters on display actually resemble their Resident Evil Village counterparts, emphasizing the depth of New Horizons' creation tools and masabow1018's creativity. This probably won't be the last of the Resident Evil and Animal Crossing crossovers, either.
Both of the recent entries for Animal Crossing and Resident Evil have taken their respective franchises to new heights. As of this past February, for example, New Horizons had surpassed 31 million units sold. Such a feat means the latest Animal Crossing installment may soon dethrone Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the Switch's best-selling title to date. Resident Evil Village is making a name for itself on the sales charts, too. The first-person horror adventure shifted an incredible three million copies after only four days on the market. Suffice it to say, Capcom's 2021 has gotten a strong thanks to RE Village and Monster Hunter Rise.
Resident Evil Village is out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S; Animal Crossing: New Horizons is playable exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
