Starfield Release Date Rumored For Spring 2022 | Screen Rant

Bethesda's mysterious new IP Starfield is expected to be coming rather soon, but not as soon as this year, according to reputable sources. Starfield is heavily rumored to release next year in the first quarter of the year, placing it around April. It was previously expected to hit this fall, but it seems it may have shifted, possibly as a result of the pandemic, or changes from Microsoft.

According to other rumors, Starfield will be an Xbox/PC exclusive. This doesn't come as much of a surprise, following Xbox's recent acquisition of Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax. The deal only recently closed earlier this year, but Xbox has likely been in heavy talks with the company to figure out what its future looks like as a first-party team. Starfield is expected to be the next title, but it's not exactly clear what the game is. All that's really known is that it's a sci-fi RPG that will likely borrow heavily from the formulas of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb tweeted that Blessing Adeoye Jr. of Kinda Funny was correct with a recent prediction that he made regarding Starfield's release date. Although it's likely Xbox will detail Starfield at E3 next month, Grubb confirmed that the game would be releasing in spring 2022 following Blessing's prediction. Of course, although Grubb has a good track record, it's worth taking with a grain of salt, as release dates can shift at a moment's notice in this industry.

At the time of this writing, there are next to no details regarding Starfield. Bethesda has been reportedly working on the game since the early 2010s, before the release of Fallout 4. It's possible that the game was slated for this fall, but following the deal with Xbox, Microsoft pushed the game back to give itself a first-party title in the spring and to avoid competition with Halo Infinite, ensuring that the two major sci-fi titles wouldn't be competing too heavily for players.

Despite its secrecy, there has been no shortage of Starfield leaks, and although they don't really tell fans much about the game, they at least prove that interest remains high. What's also unclear is if this will impact the development or release of The Elder Scrolls 6 in any way, since that's what Bethesda will move on to after Starfield releases. It seems unlikely, given it's already so far away to begin with, but with such little info available for both games, only time will tell what the future holds for either title.
