Suicide Squad Cast Hilariously Attempt to Recreate Magazine Cover

Nathan Fillion, one of the many stars of James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad sequel/soft reboot, has recently shared a hilarious Instagram post of himself and fellow castmates Flula Borg and David Dastmalchian attempting to recreate their recent Den of Geek magazine cover. Gunn’s take on DC’s infamous Task Force X, which is set to hit cinemas this August, is the tenth entry in the DC Extended Universe and boasts an impressive ensemble cast that will also see Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn reuniting with her 2016 Suicide Squad co-stars Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis, as well as introduce several new faces including Idris Elba, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, Michael Rooker and the voice of Sylvester Stallone as King Shark.

Fillion, best known for his roles in the popular TV series Firefly, Castle, and The Rookie, is slated to play Floyd Belkin, or T.D.K., a villain based on the comic character Arm-Fall-Off-Boy who has the bizarre ability to detach his limbs and use them as a weapon. Meanwhile, German actor Borg (Pitch Perfect 2) is set to play Javelin, a former Olympian who uses javelins as weapons, and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Dastmalchian is bringing the little-known Batman villain Polka-Dot Man to life, so named for the various polka dot gadgets which line his suit. In his preparations for the film, Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn has been praised for delving deeply into some of the more obscure corners of DC comics lore to fill this latest version of Task Force X with some truly peculiar characters.

The humor and comradery between the cast, which is evident in all of the marketing material released so far for The Suicide Squad, clearly continues to extend beyond the set, as Fillion and his co-stars goofing around to mock their latest photoshoot proves. Not one to be left out, James Gunn also weighed in on the post, saying he was “So Jealappy (jealous but happy) to see these photos.” Check out the original post from Fillion below:

Following on from the poor critical reactions received by the original 2016 incarnation of Task Force X in David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad, a film which was plagued by last-minute reshoots and repeated claims of studio interference, Gunn’s The Suicide Squad certainly has a lot riding on its shoulders as he attempts to restore faith not only in the Suicide Squad brand but the wider DCEU as a whole. To make things even more difficult, many diehard DC fans are still heavily involved in campaigning for Warner Bros. to restore Zack Snyder’s original vision for the DCEU off the back of the recent Synder Cut release. Gunn’s film seems to be far more intent on forging a new path for the future of the franchise, separate from its early beginnings under Snyder’s watch.

One thing fans can take comfort in, however, is that if anyone knows how to make an entertaining ensemble film filled with lovable rogues and misfits, it is James Gunn. With The Suicide Squad just mere months away and John Cena’s Peacemaker spin-off series on HBO Max also well on the way, one thing DC fans can be certain of is that the DCEU will be a very different place once James Gunn has finished putting his stamp on it. In the meantime, fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more behind-the-scenes treats and antics from the movie’s cast as the release date draws closer.
