Everybody needs a friend in their life who is as loyal to them as Dwight Schrute is to Michael Scott. In his position as Assistant to the Regional Manager – later promoted to Assistant Regional Manager – Dwight believes that it’s his duty to protect Michael’s life with his own. When Pam slapped Michael, Dwight was ready to ease his pain with some frozen meat. When Michael stepped on his Foreman grill, Dwight was so eager to help that he crashed his car and got a concussion.
This friendship wasn't one-sided either. Michael was seen to be Dwight's emergency contact and best man too. Thanks to Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson’s unparalleled on-screen chemistry, Michael and Dwight were arguably the most hilarious double act on The Office. These are the duo’s best episodes.
10 Office Olympics (Season 2, Episode 3)
Jim and Pam put on the titular “Office Olympics” in this season 2 episode while Michael and Dwight are out of the office closing the sale on Michael’s condo.
At the beginning of the day, Michael is excited to get on the property ladder and invest in a new home. However, after Dwight, just trying to help, points out all the condo’s flaws, Michael begins to think he’s made a huge mistake. He closes the sale, but doesn’t feel great about it. And then Jim warmly picks up Michael’s spirits by giving him the gold medal. Dwight takes the silver.
9 The Return (Season 3, Episode 14)
Dwight starts working at Staples in season 3’s “The Return” after Andy manipulated Michael into firing Dwight, and he’s not cut out for retail at all. He doesn't get on with his co-workers and intimidates customers by staring at them while they browse.
Michael regrets firing Dwight when he realizes how intense and annoying Andy is. When Andy punches a hole in the wall, Michael drives to Staples to offer Dwight his job back. Their reunion is one of The Office’s sweetest moments. With “Up Where We Belong” playing in the background, it’s like Michael and Dwight’s own Officer and a Gentleman scene.
8 Niagara (Season 6, Episodes 4/5)
Primarily, “Niagara” is a Jim and Pam episode, given that it revolves around their wedding at Niagara Falls. However, there is another subplot involving Michael and Dwight when they go to the wedding together and share a bunch of hilarious scenes, such as Dwight introducing Michael to a pair of male twins or Michael failing Dwight’s test to get a spot in his room.
While Dwight ends up sleeping with one of Pam’s best friends, Michael also ends up finding love when he ends up getting together with Pam's mother. It's an episode that is certainly filled with as much drama as there is comedy.
7 Branch Wars (Season 4, Episode 10)
When Karen offers Stanley a job at the Utica branch in season 4’s “Branch Wars,” Michael believes she’s trying to poach all his best people and teams up with Dwight to get revenge. They trick Jim into going along to keep a lookout while Michael and Dwight go into the Utica office, disguised with warehouse uniforms and fake mustaches, to try to steal their industrial printer.
The fact that fans don’t see Michael and Dwight’s heist op and only hear it through the radio, leaving it mostly to the audience’s imagination, makes it even funnier.
6 Dwight’s Speech (Season 2, Episode 17)
Dwight’s impressive sales record gets him invited to give a speech at a conference in season 2’s “Dwight’s Speech,” but he consults Michael for some help because he’s petrified of public speaking.
Michael accompanies Dwight to the conference and goes up before him to break the ice with some jokes, which only makes things worse. Still, the two share a nice moment afterward when they get a drink together at the bar, sharing some personal stories.
5 The Fight (Season 2, Episode 6)
Dwight brags about his karate abilities in season 2’s “The Fight,” so Michael challenges him to punch him in the stomach and gets seriously injured. He claims that he was sucker-punched and that he could beat Dwight in a real fight, which leads to the whole office going down to Dwight’s dojo at lunch so he can fight Michael.
Much to everybody’s surprise, Michael ends up beating Dwight. Dwight is so devastated that he needs Michael to promote him to Assistant Regional Manager to pick up his spirits. This is one episode in which a rift between Michael and Dwight highlights their friendship.
4 Night Out (Season 4, Episode 15)
When Ryan visits Scranton from the corporate office and invites Michael to party with him in New York as an empty gesture, Michael and Dwight drive all the way down to the city to join Ryan and his friend in a nightclub in season 4’s “Night Out.”
The episode gets a lot of comedic mileage out of Michael striking out with every girl he talks to and Dwight being surprisingly successful. The cold open to this episode also highlighted their friendship, where audiences can see Dwight rubbing peanut butter into Michael's head to get the chewing gum out.
3 The Injury (Season 2, Episode 12)
When Dwight hears that Michael has burned his foot on his George Foreman grill in season 2’s “The Injury,” he races down to his condo to help. However, he doesn’t even manage to make it out of the parking lot as he crashes his ’87 Trans Am and sustains a bad concussion.
Throughout the episode, Michael acts like a martyr due to his grilled foot, while Dwight’s genuinely serious injury goes unnoticed by the rest of the office. It is only until Dwight starts acting out of character does Michael agree to go the hospital with him.
2 The Coup (Season 3, Episode 3)
“Your dentist’s name is Crentist?” At Angela’s Lady Macbeth-esque insistence, Dwight goes over Michael’s head and meets with Jan to talk about taking his job as regional manager in season 3’s “The Coup.” To see how it plays out, Michael tells Dwight that his coup attempt was successful and that he has to give him his job.
Michael puts up with Dwight’s lust for power while he figures out a way to exact revenge, but reaches the last straw when Dwight insults his company car. Michael’s revenge ended up becoming a multi-episode storyline as Dwight did his laundry for a year.
1 Golden Ticket (Season 5, Episode 19)
Michael spends the first part of season 5’s “Golden Ticket” dressed as Willy Wonka, bragging about his idea to put Wonka-style golden tickets in shipments of paper to give their clients a discount. However, he doesn’t limit it to one ticket per customer and all the tickets end up with the branch’s biggest client, costing the company half of their account.
When David Wallace catches wind of the strategy, Michael desperately pins it on Dwight to save his job. Surprisingly, David loves the idea, so Michael naturally wants to reclaim credit for it. It was hilarious to see Michael’s flagrant manipulation of Dwight finally come back to bite him.
