The Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer finally hit the internet, and it gave a big look at what fans can expect from the upcoming Sony Marvel movie. The first film, Venom, hit in 2018 with Tom Hardy starring as Eddie Brock, and showing how he became Venom. Now, the post-credit scene from that movie has led to the sequel.
Woody Harrelson has shown up as Cletus Kasady, the serial killer who becomes Carnage. The Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer shows when Kasady becomes Carnage and adds in a few glimpses at the second villain from the movie, Shriek. It also continues to showcase Brock and Venom’s relationship as they prepare to battle their strongest foe.
10 Squashed The Spider
Cletus Kasady is talking to Eddie Brock in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer. Kasady explains he will get out and create carnage. There was one moment in the speech where Kasady taunts Eddie Brock and says “waiting in the darkness for the rescuer that never comes.” At that moment, Kasady squashes a spider, clearly giving the hint that Spider-Man is out there somewhere, but won’t be here to help Venom. This could show Spider-Man still won’t return to a Sony movie yet.
9 Avengers Lose?
There is a moment in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer where Detective Mulligan is reading a newspaper and gets angry and throws it down. Mulligan is a police detective investigating the link between Eddie Brock and Cletus Kasady as he tries to find all the murder victims that Kasady killed and remain undiscovered. Mulligan crumples the newspaper. Stop the trailer at the right second and a story inside the paper displays.
The inner page has a headline with the words “…engers lo… Nightm...” The first two words have to be “Avengers lose” and the third is “Nightmare.” This is likely just a fun Easter egg to the MCU since rumors hint Nightmare is the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness villain.
8 Daily Bugle Hints At Different Earth From MCU
There are two scenes from the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer that involves someone reading a newspaper. In the first, Detective Mulligan reads the newspaper that had the Avengers Easter egg in it. The second has Eddie Brock looking at the Daily Bugle as well. There are two things to note here. The Daily Bugle is not a newspaper in the MCU, but an online tabloid. Second, this newspaper looks just like the ones from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, making it appear Venom is not in the world of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
7 Ravoncroft Institute
The trailer takes a moment to show Ravencroft Institute. In the comics, Ravencroft is in Westchester County, New York, and Norman Osborn is the man in charge. This is where villains, mostly Spider-Man villains in the comics, end up sent when captured. In Venom: Let There Be Carnage, it could be the West Coast version of The Raft from the MCU.
However, there is also a chance that this scene takes place in New York, and Venom heads back to Eddie’s old stomping grounds. A Ravencroft scene shows a woman lying down. This is actress Naomie Harris, who plays Shriek, another symbiote villain.
6 Shriek
Shriek escaped when Ravencroft burned down. The Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer showed almost nothing of her character. Shriek is the second villain in the movie, but her role remains a mystery. In the comics, she was Carnage’s lover, albeit in a Joker/Harley Quinn manner. She had a traumatic childhood and ended up isolated for years. While only hinted at in the trailer, Shriek could become the Harley Quinn of this movie, someone Carnage uses for his own purposes, a truly tragic character.
5 Is There Another Symbiote?
Look at the fire in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer. That is Shriek walking out with someone. This could be Carnage. However, there is also a chance this could be someone else, someone she knew from inside Ravencroft, and another villain. There is fan hope that the Venom franchise could eventually lead to Maximum Carnage, which is a giant battle that involves Venom, Spider-Man, and other heroes battling Carnage and his symbiote army. Could this movie introduce other symbiotes to tease that possibility? Could this second person leaving Ravencroft be one of them?
4 Detective Mulligan
Speaking of symbiotes in the Marvel Universe, the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer did a lot to show Detective Mulligan. There is even a scene where Venom acts like he wants to attack Mulligan, showing a true antagonistic relationship. If there is a Maximum Carnage movie in the future, Mulligan could play a large role.
In the comics, Patrick Mulligan is a police officer who ended up getting a symbiote host of his own. However, he was proof that symbiotes take on their hosts’ nature, and Toxin became a hero.
3 Knull?
There were a few shots in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer that made it seem a religious fervor rose around the symbiotes. There was a Cult of Carnage stained glass window and there were symbols all over Cletus Kasady’s cell. This could lead to the god of symbiotes, Knull. A Cult of Knull existed in the comics; this cosmic being created symbiotes, and he just appeared in the King in Black Marvel storyline. Could the Venom franchise lead to Knull’s arrival?
2 Venom Loves Chocolate
Venom wanting chocolate at the end of the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer was a funny moment. However, it comes straight from the comics and it gives meaning to the joke. When Venom realizes that the chocolate shipment has not come in, he says he could eat Mrs. Chen. This is more than a joke. In the original Venom comics, Eddie Brock worked hard to get Venom to stop eating people. He substituted chocolate, and that actually worked, filling his hunger. Without chocolate, the hunger for eating people returns.
1 Stan Lee’s Cameos Continue
Look at the start of the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer when Eddie Brock walks into Mrs. Chen’s convenience store. Mrs. Chen says hi to Eddie and then hi to Venom, who says hello back to her. It is a funny moment, but there is also a Stan Lee cameo here. Check out the magazine on the front counter beside Mrs. Chen; Stan Lee is on the cover of that magazine, as his influence remains.
