Big Brother: 10 Casting Changes We Need This Season | ScreenRant

This season of Big Brother is going to be a bit different. For the first time since season two, there's a new casting team in place. This opens up the doors for a lot of opportunities to improve what has been a streak of less than stellar casts in the past few seasons.

Big Brother 21 is the biggest example of this -  a season where minorities were eliminated one after another and racism ran rampant. With this new casting crew, things can change for the better. And the first change that is needed is more diversity, 100%.

10 More Diversity

There needs to be more diversity in this show, no questions. When a house puts in one or two Black contestants and one other POC in a house full of white people, it's basically asking for them to be targeted first.

This simply shouldn't be the case. People of color need a chance to actually compete in this game, and this starts with a casting process that prioritizes them. That can start this season.

9 Older Contestants

Older contestants in Big Brother are also a rarity in recent seasons of the show. As long as they can compete in challenges, why shouldn't they be able to move in?

Renny was a fantastic character on her season of the show and proved that there's no reason that older competitors shouldn't have a chance to shine. A higher age range can only lead to more interesting and dynamic relationships.

8 A Smaller Cast, In General

Recent seasons of the show have also gone on for just a tad longer than they probably should have. Unless seasons are going to start running multiple triple evictions a season, the cast needs to be cut down.

Seasons begin to drag when it goes on for weeks and weeks and weeks. A smaller cast full of interesting personalities is far better than a season that has a ton of less than stellar cast members. Smaller is certainly better.

7 More Chances For LGBTQ+ Showmances

Straight showmances are the bread and butter of Big Brother. They're a part of the show, and that's fine - but the show needs to let LGBTQ+ showmances shine a bit too.

When only one gay man (and perhaps one lesbian, if lucky) is cast per season, they never get a chance at any sort of a romance. People with different sexualities being cast could open the doors to all sorts of firsts for the show, not to mention how much it would do for representation.

6 More Body Types

It's not hard to pinpoint what most contestants on Big Brother - or any other reality TV show in general - look like. They're usually extremely fit, impossibly ripped men and women.

An actual range of different body types would be great to see in the next season of the show. Representation in all aspects is key. The Big Brother house should be an accurate representation of the world, and having a range of body types would really help out in this regard.

5 A Twist In Casting

Seasons like Big Brother 6 and are notable for having their twists originate in the casting process, such as casting real-life friends or creating couples that were determined based on interests and types.

This isn't an absolute necessity, but casting twists can be a ton of fun, and can really help to give a season its own identity. It might be a smart way to introduce this new casting team to the show, as well.

4 New Personalities

Selecting contestants with unusual personalities or personalities that might not fit the mold can also help to make the cast feel unique.

Different personalities, whether they go together or clash, can help to make a season really feel like its own, and not just fall into a familiar pattern. Not everyone is going to gel, and that's not a problem. A little more drama has never hurt a season, either.

3 Not Just Casting People Who Want To Be On The Challenge

Another trend of recent seasons is cast people coming on that have one goal - to be a social media influencer or to end up on another popular reality show, like MTV's The Challenge.

It's pretty obvious when that is what certain cast members are after, and it makes them somewhat unlikeable from the get-go. The team in charge of casting should choose players who actually want to be there. Or better yet, do the unthinkable - actually cast fans!

2 Transgender Representation

Throughout all seasons of Big Brother US, there has only ever been one transgender player so far. This is a pitiful number. Casting more trans players can bring a whole new world and experience to the show.

Plus, it would help to make the cast really look like a snapshot of the entire world. There just needs to be more diversity in what has historically been a very redundant series.

1 Once Again, More Diversity

People of varying races, people of varying sexualities, people of different nationalities...the key to really creating a great cast lies in diversity. By casting people from different walks of life, a solid cast is going to be formed. The rest of the pieces will fall in from that starting point.

The past few seasons of Big Brother have been rough, to say the least. There is a real chance to fix it here because a strong cast is the heart of a strong season.
