Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997) finished a while ago, but for many fans, it's hard to say goodbye to the cast. Seeing an actor who had once played a favorite character then feature on another show can also be a little bittersweet too. However, there is also another part of a person that is intrigued by what had attracted the actor to these projects in the first place.
Who is the actor playing now? Was this before or years after their appearance of Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Is this an entirely different performance or one vaguely similar? Some capture that same enjoyment, taking viewers back in time, while other actor performances can't replace the original role viewers associate them with.
10 Alyson Hannigan: How I Met Your Mother (2005)
For fans of Willow, How I Met Your Mother (2005) stars Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin, who is one of the main characters of the series. How I Met Your Mother is a story told from the point of view of Ted Mosby, who spends the seasons telling his children the story of how he met their mother.
The main five characters of the series: Lily, Marshall, Ted, Robin, and Barney, are all extremely colorful and entertaining, making for an amusing watch. Fans of Buffy will certainly love this show as Lily is just as caring as Willow.
9 Sarah Michelle Gellar: Scooby-Doo (2002)
Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as the Vampire dusting heroine, Buffy Summers, as well as the crime-fighting detective, Daphne Blake. The Scooby-Doo live-action film (2002) brought the animated series to life in a cheesy, spooky, and stylized way.
Like Buffy, Gellar's Daphne is an amazing fighter and defeats plenty of villains. Where her cartoon counterpart was seen to be the "damsel in distress," Gellar and Raja Gosnell got rid of this outdated trope and made sure that Daphne could be seen as an empowering role model. Gellar also starred alongside Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Linda Cardellini again Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).
8 Seth Green: Family Guy (1999)
Seth Green, known in Buffy The Vampire Slayer as Oz, voices Chris Griffin and Neil Goldman in the animated sitcom series Family Guy (1999). Family Guy is centered around the daily lives of the Griffin Family and the shenanigans they get up to in their town, Quahog.
The series has a random and comedic attitude, plenty of schemes, and unexpected character quirks, but 19 seasons in, it still manages to surprise viewers. Besides one being animated, Chris Griffin and Oz are both easygoing and friendly.
7 James Marsters: Runaways (2017)
James Marsters portrays the inventor Victor Stein in Marvel's Runaways (2017). The series revolves around a group of teenage runaways who discover that their parents are involved in a villainous criminal organization.
Together they endeavor to thwart their parents' plans and learn the truth of their upbringing. The series shows Marsters in a role that is duplicitous and layered. And as Spike can attest, it's not the first time Marsters has played to a character's darker side.
6 Anthony Head: Merlin (2008)
Anthony Head impressively morphs from compassionate and sensible Watcher, Giles, to ruthless and fearsome King, Uther Pendragon, in fantasy drama Merlin (2008). Uther Pendragon is the ruler of Camelot and the father of Prince Arthur.
Unlike his Buffy counterpart, Uther despises magic and all its associations, prohibiting its use and executing all who possess it. Uther, himself, holds a dark secret that he struggles to keep buried in the past. The magical series takes the legend of King Arthur and the wise Merlin, and puts a youthful spin on it.
5 Michelle Trachtenberg: Gossip Girl (2007)
Michelle Trachtenberg appeared in Gossip Girl (2007) as the wealthy and devious Georgina Sparks. Dawn Summers' sudden appearance in Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a sudden plot twist that changed Buffy's life. In a similar manner, many New York socialites' lives were changed too by Georgina Sparks' as her purposeful schemes created chaos for them all. Gossip Girl is a series immersed in secrets, scandal, romance, mystery, and fashion.
4 Charisma Carpenter: Veronica Mars (2004)
Charisma Carpenter, known for her role as Cordelia Chase, appeared as a recurring character, Kendall Casablancas, in Veronica Mars (2004). Kendall Casablancas is the deceptive and sassy stepmother of Dick and Cassidy Casablancas. While Cordelia could be blunt and confident, Kendall was one to use her confidence to manipulate others. Alyson Hannigan also appeared in the series as Trina Echolls.
Veronica Mars (2004) is a mystery detective series following Private Investigator Veronica, who takes it on herself to solve the mystery of her best friend's murder. Her investigation isn't without its consequences and dangers.
3 David Boreanaz: Bones (2005)
Almost immediately after the Angel series came to an end, David Boreanaz appeared as FBI Agent Seeley Booth in the mystery procedural series, Bones (2005). Although Booth isn't a vampire, he and Angel share protective qualities, noble intent, and morality. Boreanaz was also involved as a producer and director of the 12 season series created by Hart Hanson.
Bones follows the unique and symbiotic crime-solving duo of Seeley Booth and world-renowned Forensic Anthropologist, Temperance Brennen (aka Bones). This is the show to watch for lovers of crime, the skeletal system, unique and brilliant intellectuals, and slow-burn romance.
2 Nicholas Brendon: Coherence (2013)
The science-fiction thriller Coherence (2013) is a psychological slow-burn that holds viewers in anticipation. Nicholas Brendon's character, Mike, is one of several friends enjoying each other's company during a dinner party. Like Xander's, Mike's personality is comedic but they are both capable of becoming defensive.
Mike also seems to find himself in dangerous situations too as the gathering becomes unsettling and terrifying after a passing comet cuts the power and sets off a chain of disquieting and impossible events. Coherence (2013) has its viewers baffled with its suspenseful, brilliant, and original creative direction.
1 Sarah Michelle Gellar: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
Sarah Michelle Gellar's role as Buffy changed the stereotype of the helpless blonde female victim. Buffy was a badass hunter, a fighter, and a savior. Gellar's character, Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), also finds herself having to defend against an assailant, although her intent is simply to survive.
Helen is one of four teenagers involved in a hit-and-run. However, she soon discovers that their secret cover-up attempt puts them in the sights of a killer. Helen offers her help as the group plans what to do about their unknown assailant, but unfortunately for her, she's no Buffy.
