Dungeons & Dragons Set Photos Reveal Michelle Rodriguez On Dragon Boat

New photos from the set of the Dungeons & Dragons movie show Michelle Rodriguez on a dragon boat. The tabletop role-playing game has been steadily popular since its inception in 1974, but it has seen a minor resurgence lately due to its prominent role in Stranger Things. Dungeons & Dragons saw its first feature film adaptation in 2000, which was a flop by all accounts. Two direct-to-video releases followed after that, but now the classic IP will be getting a proper, big-budget adaptation by Paramount.

The project was passed between a few different filmmakers before settling on John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who will write and direct. Their past collaborations include Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night. The cast started taking shape when Chris Pine signed on in the lead role. Since then, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis, Justice Smith, and Chloe Coleman have also come aboard, with Hugh Grant as the main antagonist Forge Fletcher. As production is currently underway in Northern Ireland, the first set of photos recently surfaced with Pine and Rodriguez appearing masked-up, but now another look is revealing more.

The Daily Mail has the latest look at the set of Dungeons & Dragons, which reveal Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith aboard a dragon boat suspended by wire ropes. Past photos of Rodriguez on set showed her wearing a reflective face covering and flowery blouse. Now her face and arms are visible, which appears to reveal some battle scars on her right bicep. This is the first look at Smith on set, who appears to be in good spirits. Check out the new set photos below, courtesy of the Forgotten Realms Wiki, which has been documenting the production of Dungeons & Dragons:

The boat Rodriguez and Smith are aboard appears to be a model of a copper dragon, indicated by the figurehead. Copper dragons are a common type of metallic dragon in the D&D universe. They are known as incorrigible jokesters who commonly reside in rocky hills and protect their treasure with great diligence. So far, the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons adaptation appears to be remaining faithful to the popular tabletop RPG game. Previous reports indicate the movie will be set in the same universe as the game, the Forgotten Realms.

With the film’s release still so far in the future, not much is known about Rodriguez and Smith’s characters. They appear to be part of the main adventuring party, along with Pine, which is traditionally 4-5 players in a game of D&D. Plot details haven’t been confirmed either, but an early version of the script hinted at a quest to locate the famous artifact known as the Eye of Vecna. With production of Dungeons & Dragons ongoing, perhaps future set photos will reveal more about the film’s quest.
