Along with all the superhero action and expanding universe, the MCU is quite good at depicting beautiful friendships. While their romantic stories can leave something to be desired, many of the buddy relationships have been heartwarming to fans.
Some of these friendships come out of the comic book history, but then there are others that are rather unexpected. Sometimes these characters seemed to hate each other only to gradually develop a connection. Other times, two characters who seem to have little in common end up making a perfect pair. To the surprise of many fans, these friendships really ended up working.
10 Thor And Bruce Banner
Despite being among the original Avengers, Thor and Bruce Banner never really interacted that much. While Thor and Hulk fought each other on the Helicarrier, it's difficult to remember the two heroes having any real conversations.
But in Thor: Ragnarok, these two are reunited when they find themselves trapped on Sakaar together. Once Hulk reverts back to Banner, he and Thor get to partner up for the first time and they make for a fun odd couple. The fact that they weren't great friends before makes their awkward interactions even funnier.
9 Sam Wilson And Bucky Barnes
Given that these two are so close with Steve Rogers, it might have made sense that Sam and Bucky quickly became friends. However, despite their friend in common, these two did not get along at all in the beginning.
Whether it was jealousy over their respective friendships with Steve, or the fact that Bucky tried to kill Sam on several occasions, they were openly hostile towards each other. It was not until The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that they formed a touching bond even in Steve's absence.
8 Thor And Rocket
Seeing Thor meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the many thrills of Avengers: Infinity War. But while his rivalry with Star-Lord was entertaining, he found a real friend in Rocket.
Rocket is not always the easiest person to get along with, but he and Thor seemed to find some common interests in their love of a good fight. This friendship extends into Avengers: Endgame where Rocket becomes a source of support for Thor's personal struggles.
7 Stephen Strange And Wong
The MCU seems to have a talent for establishing relationships that are rocky in the beginning but eventually grow into great friendships. Such is the case with Doctor Strange and Wong.
When Strange first comes to train with the Ancient One, Wong sees him as an arrogant student unwilling to follow the rules. Strange's attempts at humor also don't go over well with Wong. However, Strange eventually proves himself to be a real hero and gains Wong's respect. From there, they form a strong partnership that seems likely to last a while.
6 Clint Barton And Wanda Maximoff
Wanda Maximoff has had a long and interesting journey in the MCU which began with her as an enemy of the Avengers. She inflicted a lot of damage on the team, which made it somewhat surprising that any of them would befriend her. However, for Hawkeye to be such a close friend to her was quite a shock.
Hawkeye has never been a standout member of the Avengers, but he and Wanda found some connection. He was the one to give her the pep talk to join the team, he was the one who recruited her to Captain America's team, and the two heroes shared a mourning moment together in Endgame.
5 Tony Stark And Bruce Banner
As soon as people saw the chemistry between Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr. in The Avengers, the "science bros" became a fixation for fans. They immediately clicked with their shared love of science and willingness to push boundaries.
Seeing them together made the friendship seem so natural. However, it is a bit surprising that someone like Banner, a reserved man of science who likes to keep a calm environment, would like such a loud and chaotic person as Stark.
4 Carol Danvers And Nick Fury
The idea of Captain Marvel being set in the 1990s helped to establish Carol Danvers with this universe and also allowed for a younger Nick Fury. Seeing Fury as he is just beginning to realize the scope of what's out there made him a more personable character.
Fury was not a character who seemed like he had a lot of friends, as he was always very serious and mysterious. Seeing him interact with Carol allowed him to show a softer side and gave Carol an attachment to Earth, which helped her realize her past life there.
3 Gamora And Nebula
Though Gamora and Nebula are sisters, the fact that Thanos is their father hints at how damaging their upbringing was. In Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula is seen as the villain who is not only serving Ronan but is actively trying to kill Gamora for betraying Thanos.
However, their relationship is explored further in subsequent movies, with Gamora accepting the fact that she was not always the best sister and Nebula no longer trying to kill Gamora. They become teammates, friends, and show genuine love for each other which didn't seem possible before.
2 Peter Parker And Happy Hogan
The mentor relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker was one of the most heartwarming pairings in the MCU. However, Happy Hogan did not seem as impressed by Peter. He seemed mostly annoyed with having to deal with this young teen and pretty much just ignored Peter.
However, in the aftermath of Tony's death, Happy and Peter grow closer together. Happy begins to see how Peter is similar to Tony and gives him advice on how to be a hero. While it is not the same as what Peter and Tony had, it is still quite sweet.
1 Thor And Loki
Another dysfunctional sibling relationship in the MCU is between Thor and Loki. When they are first introduced, they seem to be friendly enough, but things quickly grow sour as Loki attempts to push Thor out of Asgard then attempts to kill him.
Things only get worse between the brothers when Loki attacks Earth, which feels like the end of his potential redemption. But while Thor's repeated mistake of joining forces with Loki seems foolish, he wants to trust his brother and tries to show him he doesn't have to be the villain. Loki is eventually able to become the hero and show that he loves, even if he is killed shortly afterward.
