Ms. Marvel Reportedly Casts Pakistani Actor Fawad Khan

The cast of Ms. Marvel has seemingly grown — with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan reported to have signed on. Initially devised by Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, Kamala Khan was brought to life by writer G. Willow Wilson in collaboration with artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie. The mold-breaking Muslim hero made her debut in 2013's Captain Marvel #14 before enjoying a solo run. She was previously confirmed to be making the jump to the MCU, with the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series set to premiere in late 2021.

It's has since been reported by multiple outlets that Khan has joined the show's cast. First offered on Twitter by BBC Asian Network journalist, Haroon Rashid, the news was later lent credence by Geo TV (Pakistan's biggest network). Equal parts actor, writer, producer, model, and singer, Khan is considered his country's brightest star. He's also best known for his work on Humsafar — a show likened to Game of Thrones and referred to as part of Pakistani television's golden age. There's no word yet on who Khan might be playing.

Khan will reportedly not be alone in transitioning to a more global audience. The above sources also announced that fellow Pakistani stars Farhan Akhtar, Nimra Bucha and Samina Ahmad have also signed on. They will join a cast that includes Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (a.k.a. Ms Marvel), Aramis Knight as Kareem (a.k.a. Red Dagger), Saagar Shaikh as Amir Khan, Rish Shah as Kamran, Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan, and Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer. Should the reported castings pan out, it would be very much in keeping with Ms. Marvel's committment to authentic representation.

The Ms. Marvel series was developed by Bisha K. Ali. Directorial duties on the episodes were shared by Adil El Arbi & Bilali Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon. Details Kamala's inaugural, New Jersey-based adventure has remained firmly underwraps. It will, however, directly lead into Vellani reprising her role alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in The Marvels. In the meantime, however, theories will no doubt rage as to how Khan and the others may fit (heroically, villainously, or otherwise) into Ms. Marvel's story.
