Nintendo has always been experimental with its consoles. Over the years they have pushed the video game industry forward, researching new technology and bringing these unique ideas to consumers. The results of this are products such as the Wii and the Nintendo Switch.
The Switch has become a massive hit, combining retro gaming with brand new gameplay features and user-friendly controllers and setup options. The Nintendo Company has already looked to its past when bringing classic titles to the Switch, but there's certainly room for more Wii games to make their debut on the console so that fans can continue to interact with these stories and titles on a new platform.
10 Mario Kart Wii (2008)
Nintendo famously try to bring a brand new Mario Kart game to each of their consoles, whether it's the Wii, 3DS, Switch or Wii U. Mario Kart 8 is currently the most popular iteration on the Switch and it even makes nods to the title's history.
There are actually a number of tracks featured on the game that were previously seen in the Wii version of the title. The appetite is clearly there from fans, therefore, but it would be a lot of fun to see classic Mario Kart games, including the Wii edition, gain new life on the Switch in all of its original glory.
9 WarioWare: Smooth Moves (2006)
All of Wario's games are pretty bizarre but the Wii's WarioWare: Smooth Moves was perhaps one of the strangest titles on the console. Pitched as a party game, this multi-player adventure saw Wii enthusiasts compete in a number of odd mini-games.
Most of these activities didn't make a lot of sense but they were fast-moving and a lot of fun. There is a real lack of Wario games on the Switch currently so it might be time to bring this classic oddity back on a new platform so that more fans can experience it for the first time.
8 Pokémon Battle Revolution (2006)
Pokémon titles are easily found on every Nintendo console, but unlike the Switch, or Nintendo DS the Wii often took a different approach to the brand. One of the titles the platform boasted was that of Pokémon Battle Revolution, which allowed players to battle against one another utilizing the Wii's impressive graphics at the time.
In many ways, the controls play out in a similar way to a conventional Pokémon game, but that's where the similarities end. With a limited range of characters on the roster to choose from, players were transported into a massive arena and pitted against their rivals. It was a concept that may translate well to Switch, which has its own share of experiences from The Pokémon Company.
7 Disney Epic Mickey (2010)
It's not especially common to see a huge brand like Disney publish an exclusive title for any platform, yet that's exactly what happened for Disney Epic Mickey which saw the Wii get the only version of this family-friendly game. It should be noted though that its sequel, The Power Of Two was available on other consoles.
The title was a platformer with a unique, stylized aesthetic that saw Mickey battle against the forces of darkness. Interestingly, the title included a morality meter where player's choices impacted the narrative moving forward. It's a great concept that fans would love to return to on the Switch, which is why it would fit perfectly.
6 Punch-Out (2009)
Punch-Out is actually a title from the Nintendo archives, which had previously appeared on consoles like the SNES. However, the Wii reboot of the title was largely well-received, featuring the kind of boxing action that players had come to expect from the series.
It was a great fit for the interactive nature of the Wii and a game that would be a great addition to the Switch in terms of the titles within the fighting genre available. Until Nintendo revisits the franchise, this might be the best way to continue the legacy of a celebrated series.
5 Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008)
Super Smash Bros. is another mainstay of Nintendo as a company, bringing together some of the brand's most famous characters from their diverse line of games. Currently Ultimate is proving to be one of the best games of the whole franchise, available on Switch.
In spite of this though, the Wii iteration, Brawl was also well received and had a compelling campaign to play through as well as a great roster of heroes. It's shocking Nintendo hasn't teased some kind of multi-pack featuring past titles in the series, but Brawl definitely deserves to have one more shot with improved graphics; for the storyline alone!
4 Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010)
Super Mario will always make its comeback in some form, as demonstrated by Nintendo's recent release of an anniversary pack, bringing some older games to the Switch console for the first time. Super Mario Galaxy 2 continues to be one of Nintendo's best games though.
It stood out amongst a huge array of titles on the Wii and for the legacy of the character and this game series alone deserves some recognition on a new platform. A double pack with Super Mario Galaxy also would be well appreciated by the fan community.
3 Wii Sports Resort (2009)
The Wii had a number of one-off titles which celebrated the interactive gameplay options with the console and capitalized on the popularity of the customizable characters known as a Mii. Wii Sports Resort was the aquatic spin-off of the original Wii Sports.
Another party title, this game saw players compete in a number of different challenges, each one based on the sort of water-based activities which one might partake in on vacation. Wakeboarding, Frisbee, and Canoeing were some of the options available!
2 Animal Crossing: City Folk (2008)
Animal Crossing might be one of Nintendo's largest franchises and has taken the Switch by storm. Of course, its popularity has always been apparent, but one iteration of the game that is perhaps underrated is that of City Folk which was released on the Wii.
It played slightly differently from other games in the series thanks to the unique nature of the console, but it carried with it many of the same themes and remains a celebrated component of the franchise's history. It would be a welcomed move to revisit the title on the Switch, likely bringing back intense nostalgia for many.
1 Donkey Kong Country Returns (2010)
Donkey Kong's various titles are extremely diverse, but Donkey Kong Country Returns stands out amongst the bunch and indeed at the time outperformed many other Wii games in terms of its quality. To revisit it on Switch would be a joyous experience that may bring the title to a new generation.
The side scroller played off of classic elements from alternate Donkey Kong titles, included Diddy Kong on the adventure, and featured some memorable locations to explore. The levels were complex yet imaginative and the gameplay itself was accessible and fast-paced.
