Schitt's Creek: 9 Unpopular Opinions About Moira (According To Reddit)

Moira Rose is the very dramatic and witty matriarch of the Rose family on Schitt's Creek. Her love of acting makes her theatrical in all aspects of life and she yearns for her old lifestyle before her family moved from California to the small town of Schitt's Creek. But as years went by, Moira grew into a humble being with more respect and admiration for her family.

However, not every fan thinks this way. Thanks to Reddit, there are some fans who have some unpopular opinions about Moira Rose and her behavior throughout Schitt's Creek. She may be a fan favorite to some, but she's the worst character to others.

9 Moira Is The Worst

A popular opinion on Reddit is how irritating Roland is. He pops up when he's not wanted or needed, and he can be a tad creepy.

However, there are some unpopular opinions about Moira being worse than Roland. Although Moira grew in all aspects of her life as the series went on, some fans found her to be inconsiderate and selfish, despite her character growth.

8 Moira Was A Good Actress

Fans are led to believe that Moira is a good(ish) actor at the start of the series. She raves about the spotlight and missing her craft, but as the series went on, it became clear that she's a B-list actress who's good at what she does.

But if Moira was as good as she claimed she was, why didn't any well-connected acting friends, directors, or writers come knocking when Moira lost it all? If she was that talented, wouldn't someone lend a helping hand? On the flip side, some fans on Reddit think Moira's acting is impeccable because she engulfed each character and transformed into the role.

7 She Loves John Equally

It's well-known that Johnny doesn't get the kind of love and respect he deserves from his family. Johnny's best parenting moments and time spent with his family mean a lot to him, but it's a one-way street at times. His kids love him but they walk all over him, as does Moira. It's obvious that Moira has love for her husband because she has small moments of admiration, but compared to Johnny?

Johnny is far more affectionate, heartwarming, and ultimately needs Moira. And sadly, it's not always reciprocated. However, some users of Reddit believe that Moira does, in fact, give Johnny the same amount of love that he gives her. Her dedication to her craft and love for herself outweighs her attention for her husband, however.

6 Moira Doesn't Become As Likable As The Rest

Every member of the Rose family is unlikable at the start of the series. They're whiney, materialistic, and judge everyone (and thing) around them. The beauty of Schitt's Creek, however, is that the characters grow and transform into more complete characters.

But not every fan thinks this way. A few fans believe that Moira never does become likable like the rest of her family. She's hilarious and softens from her hard shell in season 1, but she never fully becomes likable.

5 Schitt's Creek Should Have Never Accepted Moira's Treatment

Moira doesn't always treat those around her with the love and respect that they deserve. It's hard for Moira to show outward affection — especially to her own family. When it came to the townspeople of Schitt's Creek (mainly the Jazzagals), Moira continued to speak down to them and demeaned their lifestyle.

One fan suggests that the town rioted against Moira and demanded her to either leave or treat them better. But if that did happen, where would that leave Moira in the finale? It's because the town didn't turn its backs on her that she was able to grow and change, albeit subtly.

4 Moira Was Right To Leave Schitt's Creek Behind

In the series finale, Johnny and Moira were heading off for a new life in California while Alexis was jetting off to New York. They did just about everything they could in the town and it was time to get their lives back in order.

There were many fans who had issues with the Roses leaving, however. The popular opinion, and something that fans felt made no sense about Schitt's Creek, is that they should have stayed and made the town their home base. As unpopular as this was, however, there was nothing for them in Schitt's Creek. Moira couldn't be fulfilled in the town and Johnny was itching to grow. Staying behind wouldn't have transformed the Roses.

3 Moira Was The Better Parent

Was Moira a better parent than Johnny? Johnny was seen as the softer parent, one who listened and showed affection through his responses. Moira, on the other hand, was more aloof and too focused on her career to worry about her kids, David and Alexis. Moira and Alexis only became closer and Schitt's Creek featured some happy mother-daughter moments when they started working together.

As delightful as a father as Johnny was, the unpopular opinion is that there were some fans who felt that Moira was better at parenting than Johnny. Moira showed empathy by the series finale but not as much as Johnny.

2 Her Accent Is The Worst

One of the best (and most popular) parts about Moira is her unique accent. Moira's quotes are some of the funniest in the series. She accentuates particular words, uses a broad range of vocabulary, and sounds like she's not from North America.

The way Moira pronounces things is what fans love best. Contrastingly, there are fans who felt that Moira's accent is overdone and "utterly annoying."

1 Moira Shouldn't Have Won Town Council

After a short time of being in Schitt's Creek, Moira ran for town council as something to do. Going head-to-head with Jocelyn, Moira claimed that "someone" stole her town council signs to sabotage her chances. Jocelyn felt so bad for Moira that she made new signs for her, even though Moira was the competition. In a shocking twist, Moira admitted she was the one who stole her own signs because it was a tactic in winning the election.

One fan was disturbed by Moira's dirty political scheming and didn't like the fact that she ran for town council and won because Jocelyn was better suited for the position.
