Space Jam 2 Images Show 8 Looney Tune Characters In 3D Style

New Space Jam 2 images showcase eight Looney Tune characters in 3D style. Arriving in theaters and on HBO Max next month, July 16, Space Jam: A New Legacy is the highly-anticipated and long-awaited follow-up to the 1996 classic starring Michael Jordan. Though talks of a sequel began immediately following Space Jam’s release, it wasn’t officially announced until 2014, with current NBA icon LeBron James set to star. Since then, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the NBA/Looney Tunes mashup.

The Space Jam sequel got stuck in development and didn’t begin production until 2019 under director Terence Nance. He subsequently left the project due to creative differences with Warner Bros. Girls Trip director Malcolm D. Lee then stepped in, finishing principal photography and ushering the film through post-production. From the very beginning, LeBron set the sequel apart from its popular predecessor, saying it is a “family movie that revolves around him parenting his fictional son, Dom (Cedric Joe).

With Space Jam’s marketing campaign in full swing ahead of its release next month, EW has two new images showcasing eight Looney Tune characters in 3D style. The first poster shows Granny enjoying a Martini in the locker room. The second shows the shocked reaction of Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Porky Pig, Wile E. Coyote, and Lola Bunny (voiced by Zendaya). Check out the two new images below:

This is just the latest in a long line of looks at the Looney Tunes’ new 3D designs. The film will see LeBron and the Tune Squad taking on the Goon Squad, a team of digitized NBA and WNBA stars created by the rogue humanoid AI-G Rhythm (Don Cheadle). Audiences will see the Tunes in their original 2D designs, but the whole “digital serververse” concept necessitated a total 3D makeover of the characters.

While there has been plenty of promotional material to showcase LeBron, the Looney Tunes, and Don Cheadle’s character, not much has been seen yet of the film’s villains, other than some character posters. Rather than the Monstars, the sequel will feature the Goon Squad, digitally gamified versions of Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi, Klay Thompson, and Nneka Ogwumike. With the Tunes getting all the attention thus far, perhaps a better look at the Tune Squad’s adversaries in Space Jam 2 is on the horizon.
