Venom Vs. Carnage: Their 10 Biggest Fights In The Comics

When Spider-Man came back to Earth with an alien symbiote he believed was a costume, it kick-started one of the most popular characters in Marvel Comics. The symbiote ended up becoming Venom and eventually created other symbiotes, the first of which bonded with convicted serial killer Cletus Kasady and became Carnage.

Since that time, Venom and Carnage became blood rivals, fighting more than once and trying to kill each other several times. They pulled other heroes and villains into their fights more than once and their biggest fights in comics rocked the Marvel universe more than once.

10 Eating The Symbiote

This was not so much a fight as it was Venom destroying Carnage, proving who the dominant symbiote was. In Peter Parker Spider-Man #9 by Howard Mackie and John Romita Jr., Eddie Brock snuck into the prison area where Cletus Kasady stayed. He took out the guards and attacked, eating the Carnage symbiote right out of Kasady.

Venom reclaimed his offspring, leaving the killer alone and broken. The symbiote ended up dormant inside Brock until eventually it escaped and found its way back to Kasady.

9 The First Clash

Eddie Brock met Cletus Kasady while in prison. Soon, the symbiote came for Eddie, bonding with him and helping him escape. However, he left his offspring before leaving and it bonded with Kasady, creating a murderous symbiote in its wake.

This led to a massive three-way battle between Spider-Man, Carnage, and Venom, in Amazing Spider-Man #361-363 by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley. Venom and Spider-Man eventually had to work together to stop the villain because Carnage is stronger than Venom.

8 Minimum Carnage

In 2012, Venom and Scarlet Spider had to team up to stop Carnage in the crossover series ‘Minimum Carnage.’ Flash Thompson worked as Agent Venom during this story arc, while Scarlet Spider is Ben Reilly, the Peter Parker clone.

This Venom and Carnage battle took them to the Microverse, where Carnage had taken control. The only way Venom can beat him is if he stops fighting with Scarlet Spider and they work together to overcome the murderous villain.

7 Carnage Unleashed

One of Venom and Carnage’s biggest fights took place on the Internet. In the miniseries Venom: Carnage Unleashed, the two enemies ended up going into the Internet and continuing their battle there. This all started when Extreme Violence Video Games created a Carnage game and gifted him a copy to play in prison.

Carnage used his powers to escape through the game and started killing people remotely. Venom used his symbiote powers to go in and the two battled in cyberspace. The story hit stands in 1995 before people knew as much about the Internet.

6 Fighting As Pirates

One of the strangest Venom and Carnage fights took place on a pirate ship. This took place in 2021’s Carnage: Black, White and Blood by Karla Pacheco and Chris Mooneyham. The story showed the war between these two is eternal.

This saw Captain Cassady possessing a symbiote and slaughtering his crew and killing anyone who gets in his way. He ends up battling Admiral Eddie Brock of Britain, who arrives aboard the ship called Venom, and the two go to battle.

5 Absolute Carnage

Carnage has shown through the years how powerful he is, stronger than both Venom and Spider-Man. It often takes more than one hero to stop him and it took an entire legion in Absolute Carnage. In this story arc.

Carnage was stronger than ever thanks to his connection with the cosmic symbiote entity, Knull. Both Cletus Kasady and Norman Osborn operated as Carnage and most Earth's heroes had to team up to stop him. Venom battled Carnage by taking on several heroes as hosts, including an amazing turn inside the Immortal Hulk.

4 Red Goblin As Carnage

Having a mass murderer in Cletus Kasady made Carnage dangerous, but putting Norman Osborn and the Carnage symbiote together was deadly. The symbiote found someone as monstrous as Kasady and welcomed the bonding.

The Red Goblin went after everyone Spider-Man cared about and killed one of Marvel’s most powerful versions of Venom in Flash Thompson’s Agent Anti-Venom. This happened when Flash tried to use his powers to de-power Norman but gave his life to save his friends.

3 Carnage U.S.A.

Carnage U.S.A. showed readers what happened when the Carnage symbiote bonded with the Avengers. In this 2012 miniseries, Carnage took control of everyone in a Colorado town and the Avengers came in to stop him.

It was all a trap and Carnage took over Captain America, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the Thing, and Wolverine. Venom finally showed up as Flash Thompson’s Agent Venom to fight Venom to save Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

2 A Child Is Born

Venom and Carnage had a baby. As his offspring, Carnage remains more powerful than Venom and this child is more powerful than both. Carnage wanted this offspring dead, seeing it as a threat, but the Venom symbiote wanted to save it.

This story arc played out in Venom vs. Carnage in 2004 by Peter Milligan and Clayton Crain. The symbiote bonded with a police officer named Patrick Mulligan and became Toxin, and Venom and Carnage fought for this offspring's survival.

1 Maximum Carnage

In 1993, the greatest Carnage story arc hit with Maximum Carnage. This allowed Marvel to focus on the popular villain and make him more than just another Spider-Man or Venom villain.

The story played out over 14 issues and started when Cletus Kasady realized the Carnage symbiote was destroyed but pieces of it mutated in his blood. He frees Shriek and they escape before going into battle with several Marvel heroes, including Venom, who is the only hero who could finally beat him. With Carnage and Shriek escaping together, part of this series could be the influence of the upcoming movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
