Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Reveals Series Author Dan Abnett's Involvement

The developer behind Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has revealed it's collaborating with the acclaimed Warhammer author Dan Abnett for the upcoming game. The series author will be helping in the development of the new title in the Warhammer 40K franchise, with the studio intent on bringing the best possible experience to fans of the popular franchise.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is an upcoming FPS action game set in the Warhammer  universe. The game is being developed by Swedish studio Fatshark on PC and Xbox Series X/S for a 2021 release. The game is supposedly going to be similar in gameplay to the Warhammer: Vermintide series, with four players cooperating to take down waves of enemies together and complete tasks. In Warhammer 40K: Darktide, players will form a squad of Imperial Guardsmen who are investigating a cult on Atoma Prime. While a Darktide gameplay trailer was released back in December 2020, not much else of the game has been seen

Dan Abnett’s involvement with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has now been revealed by Fatshark, an exciting prospect for fans due to his many best-selling Warhammer novels. With Darktide being set in the extended Warhammer 4K universe, Abnett is an important resource for Fatshark to pull from in building the upcoming game. Darktide having Abnett on the writing team means the game will probably be chock full of Warhammer lore and history, and Fatshark emphasizes his impact on the game's story and characters will be substantial. Abnett share that his favorite part of the Warhammer series is how dark the universe is, which means that Darktide will almost definitely be as dark as the Vermintide games, if not darker.

Abnett has also worked on a number of Marvel Comics series, some of which have been adapted into major Hollywood movies, including Guardians of the Galaxy and various X-Men titles. His work on Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40,000, and Game Workshop’s Black Library graphic novels has sold over two million copies worldwide. He has also worked on DC Comics’ Legion of Superheroes, Justice League, and Aquaman. In terms of working on video games, he has also written for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation

With the star power and talent of Dan Abnett onboard, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide likely just shot up much higher on dedicated series fans' gaming wishlists. How deeply his impact on the game's story will run will become clearer as the title nears its coming release.
