With such characters as America Chavez and Ms. Marvel joining the MCU in Phase Four – not to mention Clint Barton passing on the mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop – Kevin Feige seems to be slowly building toward an on-screen Young Avengers line-up.
A Young Avengers franchise has the chance to be a Y.A. version of the Avengers movies. From Wiccan to Stature to Iron Lad, there are a bunch of beloved young heroes from the comics who could join the MCU’s Young Avengers team.
10 Wiccan
Wiccan was technically introduced in WandaVision, but he only appeared as a figment of Wanda’s imagination. She conjured up two sons, Tommy and Billy Maximoff, and they dressed up in their comics-accurate superhero costumes on Halloween.
Based on an amalgamation of the powers of Thor and the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan should appear for real in the MCU as a key member of the Young Avengers.
9 Kate Bishop
In the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+, Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton will train Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop to take on his mantle and become the new bow-and-arrow-wielding Avenger.
Barton is just the latest of the six original Avengers to pass on their name to a new hero: Steve Rogers passed his mantle on to Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff passed on hers to Yelena Belova, and Bruce Banner is set to pass on his to Jen Walters.
8 Iron Lad
One of the key Young Avengers is Iron Lad, the younger version of Iron Man. In the MCU, Peter Parker has been built up as Tony Stark’s young ward, but the MCU could still have its own Iron Lad.
Maybe Harley Keener will take on the mantle following his surprise reappearance in Endgame’s funeral scene. He could be crucial to the upcoming Armor Wars series about Tony’s worst fears coming to fruition.
7 Speed
Alongside Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan, Speed appeared as a figment of Wanda’s imagination in WandaVision. In the comics, Speed’s alter ego is Tommy Shepherd, but WandaVision changed him to a son of Wanda and Vision called Tommy Maximoff.
Since Speed’s powers are based on Quicksilver’s, it would make sense for him to be a Maximoff in the MCU. Like Wiccan, hopefully, Speed will one day appear in the MCU in his true form.
6 Miles Morales
A couple of years ago, it seemed likely that the MCU’s Young Avengers would be led by Tom Holland’s widely beloved Spider-Man, but it's possible this could change..
Instead, the Young Avengers’ Spidey could be Peter Parker’s successor, Miles Morales, who’s become hugely popular in the past few years, thanks to Into the Spider-Verse and the Miles-centric video game.
5 Hulkling
Hulkling was initially characterized as a younger version of the Hulk, but Hulkling’s shapeshifting abilities go far beyond Bruce Banner’s power to switch back and forth from the Hulk persona.
The most notable thing about Hulkling is his relationship with Wiccan, which has become one of the Marvel universe’s highest-profile LGBTQ+ romances.
4 Stature
Although the part was played by Emma Fuhrmann after the time jump in Avengers: Endgame, the role of Cassie Lang will be taken over by Kathryn Newton in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
It has yet to be confirmed, but the recasting of a bigger name (Newton has starred in Freaky and Detective Pikachu) suggests she may finally take on her superhero mantle of Stature.
3 Kid Loki
One of the many “variants” of Loki to appear on the trickster god’s Disney+ series is Kid Loki, a little boy version of the familiar villain. In the comics, Kid Loki is the reincarnated version of Loki after he’s killed, but the MCU’s antics at the TVA have given him a new backstory.
For the role of Kid Loki on the Loki Disney+ series, Marvel has cast rising star Jack Veal, who previously played roles in My Name is Lenny, Tin Star, and The End of the F***ing World.
2 America Chavez
Xochitl Gomez has been cast to play America Chavez in the MCU, starting with a supporting role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. America was Marvel’s first-ever Latin-American LGBTQ+ character to lead their own series.
In the comics, America is the best friend of Kate Bishop, who will presumably become the first Young Avenger following the events of the Hawkeye series, so she could be the next recruit.
1 Ms. Marvel
Inspired by her childhood hero Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan took on the mantle of Ms. Marvel and notably became the first Muslim character to anchor their own Marvel comic book. Her wild superpowers include shapeshifting and elasticity, which will certainly look interesting in live-action.
Iman Vellani will play Kamala in the MCU, starting with her own self-titled series on Disney+ and leading to a role alongside Carol herself in The Marvels. This could lead into Kamala heading up the Young Avengers.
