The CW’s Legends Of The Hidden Temple reboot has named comedian Cristela Alonzo as host. Alonzo is best known for the 2014 ABC sitcom Cristela, a project that earned her a spot in television history. With it, she became the first Latina talent to create, produce, write, and star in her own American primetime comedy. Since then, Alonzo has had stints on ABC's The View, her own Netflix standup special Lower Classy and even lent her voice to Disney Pixar's Cars 3.
Deadline confirms that Alonzo will next be seen hosting The CW's Legends of The Hidden Temple when it premieres on Sunday, October 10. The creative revealed her excitement to the publication, saying:
Having grown up on 90’s pop culture and actually being a fan of the original Legends of the Hidden Temple, I am thrilled to be hosting the new updated version of the show. The biggest challenge for me on this show will be trying to simultaneously host it and contain my geeked-out excitement at the same time.
Alonzo's enthusiasm will no doubt add to the nostalgic feel of the reimagining which this time sees adults competing in Legends of the Hidden Temple. Players are set to go head to head in challenges known from the original series, like the Moat Crossing and the Temple Run, with a modern twist. Instead of being filmed inside a studio, the new production will head into a mysterious jungle brimming with tougher obstacles, but better rewards.
Although it's unknown if Alonzo will physically be in the jungle herself or in a studio, her casting has the potential to be a wonderful addition to Legends of the Hidden Temple. Unlike original host Kirk Fogg, who was beloved for guiding the original 90s show, Alonzo brings a funny flare to the incarnation. The concept of millennials running through the jungle is ripe for comedic commentary, and Alonzo no doubt has the prowess needed to bring exactly that.
