Nickelodeon has revealed the cast and synopsis for the upcoming Paramount+ live-action reboot of The Fairly OddParents. The show is just one of the many Nickelodeon series getting a reboot on Paramount+, alongside Dora The Explorer and iCarly. Filming on The Fairly OddParents was reportedly set to begin in June, but there have been few updates on the new series otherwise.
The original show ran on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2006. The Fairly OddParents then resumed airing in 2008 until 2017, just before its creator Butch Hartman left the network. The animated series follows perpetual 10-year-old Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda, who grant his every wish. However, Timmy's wishes tend to not go as planned, creating more problems. Set in the town of Dimmsdale, Timmy's wacky parents, evil babysitter Vicky, and demented teacher Mr. Crocker provide plenty of excuses for Timmy to turn to his fairy godparents.
Per Comicbook, Nickelodeon has now confirmed that production has begun, revealing the cast and story behind the upcoming reboot. The show will pick up after the end of the original Fairly OddParents, with Timmy's cousin, Vivian Turner, serving as the main character. She and her new step-brother, Roy Ragland, are entrusted with Timmy's loyal companions Cosmo and Wanda, meaning chaos will likely ensue. Check out the entire synopsis from Nickelodeon below:
In The Fairly OddParents, Ty Turner uproots his life to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Rachel Ragland, in the town of Dimmsdale, thrusting his cautious 13-year-old daughter, Viv, into a new world where she does not fit in. Once there, her cousin, Timmy, entrusts his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo, to help her adjust by taking her under their wings. Witnessing the fairy transfer take place, Viv’s new stepbrother, Roy, also inherits them and the two siblings must come together to overcome the obstacles in their path, all with the help from their new wand-wielding and wish-granting fairy godparents.
The live-action cast for The Fairly OddParents reboot includes Audrey Grace Marshall as Vivian and Tyler Wladis as Roy. Additionally, Laura Bell Bundy, Ryan-James Hatanaka, and Imogen Cohen are part of the ensemble. Bundy will play Rachel, while Hatanaka takes on the role of Ty. Cohen will co-star as their friend Zina Zacarias. Additionally, Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee will return to voice Cosmo and Wanda.
The Fairly OddParents series is set to premiere on Paramount+ sometime this year, but no date has been announced. However, the news that production has begun is a good sign the show will premiere sooner rather than later. It's also exciting to hear story details and find out who will be playing the main characters. It's clear that the Nickelodeon reboots are a key part of Paramount+'s rebranding as the streaming destination for children's content or nostalgic adults. But considering how beloved the animated show is and the criticism following the bizarre live-action movies, The Fairly OddParents series will need to be reminiscent of the goofy original to win over viewers.
