Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 Officially Begins Production

Production on season 2 of Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga has officially begun. The young-adult series is a live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon's Winx Club, an animated show about Bloom, a fairy warrior who seeks to improve her skills at Alfea College. Though the show was originally only supposed to run for three seasons, its popularity garnered a total of eight seasons—the Netflix adaptation premiered in January of 2021 to mixed reviews. Despite the reviews, the show was renewed by Netflix for a second season in February.

The live-action adaptation features a cast of characters based on the main characters from Winx Club but takes a very different approach to the world of Alfea College. Showrunner Brian Young is most notable for his work on The Vampire Diaries and brought the same edge to Fate: The Winx Saga's production. The show abandons the colorful costumes for a grittier and slightly more realistic look and feel. In the six episodes of season 1, fans saw Blood Witches, Burned Ones, and attempted murder. The season ended on a cliffhanger, with an ancient power burning inside Bloom (Abigail Cowen) and new leadership in Alfea.

Fans hopefully won't have to wait too much longer for season two, as the cast and crew have gathered once again to begin production. In a video released to Netflix UK & Ireland's YouTube channel, familiar faces joined with a few newcomers for a socially distanced table read of a script. The video catches different cast members throughout their day on set to express their excitement about the upcoming season. The camera also pans over the name tags of some of the new cast members, including Paulina Chávez, who plays Flora, a character many fans missed in season 1. Watch the video below:

Despite a somewhat rocky start in season 1, it would seem fans have a lot to be excited about in the upcoming season. The fact that characters like Flora are being brought in shows that the showrunners listen to fans and understand what they want from Fate. This could signal that the show will further find its footing in season 2 and cement itself as a well-loved addition to the Winx universe. Another thing the show had going for it is the excitement and dedication of the cast and crew, who all seem genuinely happy to be working on the show again after wrapping on season 1.

Netflix hasn't given much information about when the eight-episode second season will drop, but it's reasonable for fans to expect it sometime in early 2022. Fate: The Winx Saga fans eager for more information on filming can also look to Instagram and other social media to catch future updates.
