Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey was recreated for the third installment of Lifetime films that have documented the lives of the exiled members of the royal family, titled Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace. Prior to this film, Lifetime depicted the royal couple throughout their courtship, engagement, and subsequent marriage in the made-for-television dramas titled Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. Prince Harry and Markle's relationship has been under a microscope ever since the second son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles announced his engagement to the former Suits star in November 2017.
In this installment, actor Jordan Dean (The Punisher) and Sydney Morton (She's Gotta Have It) sit in the same lush setting as the royal couple as they field hardball questions from Winfrey during her sit down with the couple that aired on March 7 of this year. The couple wore the same clothing the couple donned for the chat. The recreation of the interview was only shown briefly - as the couple faced Winfrey, a voiceover from Dean in character as Harry said, "We're stopping them from destroying us like they did so many others." According to the official logline, the forthcoming film will reveal “what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son Archie.” The Lifetime movie will also detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, the couple's disappointment that the royal family did not defend them against press attacks, and Harry’s fear he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother Princess Diana’s untimely death. Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will also explore private royal family feuds between brothers Prince Harry and Prince William, sisters-in-law Kate Middleton and Markle. The television film will also detail the alleged difficulties in the father/son relationship between Prince Harry and Prince Charles. The drama will debut on Lifetime on Monday, September 6 at 8/7c.
