The world occupied by the Sons of Anarchy is one full of duplicity, criminality and scheming. Day in and day out, this lawless motorcycle gang engaged in some of the worst aspects the criminal underworld, and the price was often paid in blood. With so much illegal activity and villainy going on, secrets were everywhere.
Many of the characters in the show tried like mad to keep these secrets contained, but sooner or later they slipped up and let the cat out of the bag. While some came clean of their own accord, others were forced to admit it at gunpoint. Regardless of which, it usually came with a death warrant attached.
10 Otto - Believed Bobby Kiled Luann
It's hard to find a SAMCRO member more dedicated and loyal to the club than Otto Delaney was. The man bit out his own tongue in a defiant gesture that he would not rat out his club for anything. However, that wasn't always the case. Otto did have one weakness which was exploited, and caused a major rift with the club.
Otto believed that fellow member Bobby was the one who killed the love of his life, Luann. Those looking to build a case against SAMCRO weaponized this narrative in order to get Otto to rat on Bobby, which caused major problems with the group. It was a secret Otto couldn't hang onto for long, however, and he soon changed his tune.
9 McGee - Betrayed SAMCRO For Money
In contrast to other members of the Sons of Anarchy, McGee's secrets were singular in purpose, and rather mundane. It was revealed that he had betrayed SAMCRO at the behest of Liam O'Neill and Jimmy O'Phelan, in order to secure a lucrative arms deal with the IRA and generate massive profits in the process.
McGee went along with the idea, even though he had no ill will towards SAMCRO, and wanted them to return to the States without incident. However, his lies caught up with him, and he finally revealed that his actions were purely in the pursuit of money so he could retire in comfort. Clay accepted his apology before pushing him off a roof in broad daylight, to his death.
8 Unser - Kept Many Secrets For SAMCRO
Wayne Unser was a bad guy, by every respect. He was a former Police Chief turned willing accomplice to SAMCRO, who was so embedded in their everyday affairs that he might as well have been a member himself. All this was for what Unser believed was the greater good - a better and safer Charming, California.
Unser did everything he could to keep the Sons in power, as he believed that their presence would ward off everything from greedy industrialists to drug trafficking. Unfortunately, that meant piling up more secrets than he could physically count, on top of his rather sad and tragic life up to that point.
7 Trammel - Covered Up SAMCRO Actions
Like Wayne Unser, Vic Trammel was another dirty cop who found himself on SAMCRO's payroll, routinely covering up their messes while giving them vital intel that could aid them in their illicit activities. Trammel must have thought the job was a straightforward one, but it wouldn't be long until his behavior caught up to him.
Trammel's secrets were numerous, but they all centered around his self-enrichment. Eventually, the bell would toll for him when he got roped into pulling over a drug dealer with drugs in the car, planted by Opie. He was shot in the chest before the dealer sped off, and died off screen.
6 Gemma - Murdering Tara
Jax's mother Gemma had been around the block when it came to the inner workings of SAMCRO, and her pull was enormous. She started out with John Teller, before switching up for Clay after his demise. Jax accepted this union, until it became clear that Clay was probably involved in John Teller's murder.
While Gemma managed to navigate this particular minefield without much incident, she made a fatal mistake when she misread Tara's intentions later in the series, and murdered her in cold blood. This was perhaps due to their turbulent personal history, which Tara commented on frequently. She blamed it on Henry Lin and his Triad, provoking an all out war between both he and Jax. When the guilt became too much to bear, she confessed to Jax, who ended her life with an execution-style shot to the head.
5 Tara - Plotting To Flee With Her Kids
All Tara wanted was to have a reasonably normal life with Jax, despite knowing what he was up to in SAMCRO. Unfortunately, the more she tried to balance that life with the club, the more she was drawn into its criminality. Eventually, Tara started becoming an active participant in a series of crimes, which put a huge target on her head.
Tara held a number of secrets, particularly involving her desire to get out of Charming with her children, so they wouldn't get caught up in the gang lifestyle that Jax was involved in. She ratted on SAMCRO and tried to flee with her kids before she was found out by Jax, who ended up having a change of heart as a result. Her secrets were weaved exclusively to protect her children.
4 Clay - Putting A Hit Out On Tara
Clay Morrow had a lot to answer for during his time in SAMCRO, and his list of secrets will probably never be fully unveiled. In the first few seasons of the show, it's hinted that Clay was responsible for the murder of Jax's late father John Teller, one of the founding members of the club. Later, this fate becomes less certain as hints begin to arise that Teller took his own life to try and protect his family.
The much larger secret Clay tried to hide was the hit he put out on Tara, whom he believed was influencing Jax in a negative way, and pulling him away from SAMCRO. Once the word got out, Jax kept him on a short leash under threat of death, keeping him around to secure an arms deal. Once his usefulness had run out, Jax executed him to make it look like he died in a shootout with Galen and his men.
3 Tig - Killing Opie's Wife Donna
Of all the characters on Sons of Anarchy, Tig kept one of the most horrible secrets, and it ate away at him to the point where he couldn't handle the guilt anymore. A series of unfortunate events led Clay to believe that Opie was a liability to SAMCRO, and needed to be put down via execution.
Unfortunately, Tig ended up killing Opie's wife Donna in the process, though he never meant to. When the dust settled, Tig spiraled into depression, and ended up coming clean with Opie, who nearly beat him to death outside the club. The pain of each punch was nothing compared to what he was feeling inside, however.
2 Juice - Covering Up Tara's Murder
While Juice truly enjoyed being a part of SAMCRO, he was never able to commit himself fully to the club, specifically due to his inner demons. His sense of self-preservation was far more important than loyalty to his brothers, and that caused significant rifts that eventually saw him booted from SAMCRO, and later executed on Jax's orders.
Juice kept several major secrets from the club, beginning with the fact that his father was Black, which SAMCRO technically would have had a problem with. However, the worst of his transgressions turned out to be covering for Gemma after she murdered Tara. He eventually confessed to Jax, who ordered a quick death in exchange for his honesty, giving him some redemption in the process.
1 Jax - Knowing That Clay Had Members Killed
As a high ranking member of SAMCRO, Jax was forced to live a life of secrets and lies almost from day one. That ended up taking on a whole new meaning when he eventually took over as club President in Clay's absence. Almost from day one, it changed him to the point where he had basically solidified his own fate.
One of Jax's biggest secrets is the knowledge that Clay had JT and Piney killed, and attempted to have Tara assassinated. He kept Clay alive in order to preserve the deal between the Galindo Cartel and the CIA. This has massive ramifications for the club, and Jax withholds the truth from his fellow SAMCRO members until the latter half of season 4.
