A new Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 trailer teases the latest adventures for the U.S.S. Cerritos. The Star Trek franchise has found new life on the small screen in recent years. Paramount+, formerly known as CBS All Access, helped launch Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and more live-action shows. The Star Trek TV shows have become quite popular and gave Trekkies plenty of opportunities to see new stories set in different parts of the cosmos.
The streaming service gives the Star Trek franchise plenty of room to make each show different from the rest, with Star Trek: Lower Decks taking this approach a step further. The animated show is set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation and the first season even included a few cameos from TNG cast members. Otherwise, it follows four Ensigns on the U.S.S. Cerritos' lower decks: Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), D'Vana Tendi (Noel Wells), and Sam Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). These characters will once again be at the center of Star Trek: Lower Decks' second season.
As part of Comic-Con@Home 2021, Paramount+ released a new trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2. The trailer debuted during the service's "Peak" Animation block and a virtual panel hosted by Jerry O’Connell featuring Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Eugene Cordero, and series creator Mike McMahan. Check out the new Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 trailer below:
The new season 2 trailer gives fans another idea of how the comedic series will continue its story and build on what happened in the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 1 finale. Boimler is shown with Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes) on the U.S.S. Titan after accepting a promotion and leaving the U.S.S. Cerritos. There is also a reference to Star Trek: Voyager's Tom Paris as Boimler talks to him on a plate. Back on his old Starfleet starship, Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford are involved in plenty of hijinks. However, it appears Lower Decks won't keep the show's four main characters apart for long, as Boimler is shown alongside his friends multiple times throughout the trailer.
With Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 looking just as fun as the first season, fans thankfully already know that the show will continue. Paramount+ already renewed the animated series for a third season. This guarantees 20 more episodes of adventures are in store over the next two seasons. And with Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 debuting on the streaming service in August, it won't be long before Trekkies get a chance to see what comes next and what types of surprises await them next.
