Star Wars: 10 Best Unforgettable Relationships | ScreenRant

While the Star Wars franchise is filled with visually stunning starship battles and lightsaber duals, some of the biggest reasons that the franchise has kept fans coming back for over 40 years are the colorful characters and their relationships with each other.

Though the characters may be aliens and robots from a far-off galaxy, many of them have become fan-favorite icons. Through movies, television shows, comics, novels, and more, these characters have interacted with each other and built complex and compelling histories together. Whether it be a friendship, romance, mentorship, or rivalry, Star Wars is filled with memorable relationships.

10 Obi-Wan And Darth Maul

While fans of the movies will remember Obi-Wan defeating Darth Maul after Maul struck down Qui-Gon Jinn, killing him with his unique weapon, the two have a much deeper history that has continued in other media. After surviving their first dual, Maul became determined to get his revenge on Obi-Wan, killing his love Satine. Their relationship came to an end when Obi-Wan finally killed Maul in their last dual.

Their relationship was filled with anger, loss, and revenge, each motivated to make the other pay for what they took from them. In Clone Wars, Maul even goes as far as to say that it was his hatred for Obi-Wan that kept him alive. In his last moments, Maul is held by Obi-Wan as he dies, reinforcing how bonded the two were.

9 Rey And Kylo

Throughout the sequel trilogy, Rey and Kylo had a complicated and divisive relationship, fluctuating from rivals to allies back to rivals to lovers with Kylo sacrificing himself to bring her back to life.

Regardless of which side of the fight they found themselves on, there was always a strong connection between the two. They consistently had each other's back and brought out the best in each other. Whether fans loved or hated their tragic love story, there is no denying that their relationship defined the sequel trilogy.

8 Padme And Anakin

One of the central conflicts of the prequel trilogy was Anakin's love for Padme and the Jedi's forbiddance of attached relationships. As badly as Anakin wanted to be a Jedi, he could not let go of his marriage to Padme, causing the two to have one of the stormiest relationships in the prequel trilogy.

Anakin's nightmares about Padme's pregnancy motivated him to seek out dark side powers. Anakin's desire to save Padme drove him to do the unthinkable and betray his order. While their love story ultimately had a tragic ending, their romance and family reshaped the entire galaxy.

7 Finn And Poe

While they did not get as much screen time together as fans would have liked, Finn and Poe's bromance, especially in The Force Awakens, was a standout of the sequel trilogy. Finn defected from the First Order and risked his own life in order to save Poe.

In return, Poe became the first person to believe in Finn, giving him his name. Their reunion at the rebel base was especially touching as Poe thanked Finn for completing his mission for him and remarked that Finn looked good in his jacket.

6 Obi-Wan And Anakin

Throughout the prequels, Obi-Wan and Anakin had a close-knit, brotherly relationship. They got on each other's nerves and tested each other's patience but they clearly trusted and cared for each other, making their dual all the more heartbreaking.

Their relationship was filled with humor, adventures, and tragedy. Obi-Wan wanted more for Anakin, but still cared enough about him, even after his turn to the dark side, to make sure that his wife and kids were taken care of, giving up his entire life to watch over Luke.

5 Din Djarin And Grogu

At the heart of The Mandalorian is the relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu. Initially starting as just another job, Din Djarin's protection of Grogu has grown into so much more as Din Djarin has developed a father-like protective nature over Grogu, feeding, disciplining, and looking after him.

Din Djarin making the tough decision to send Grogu with Luke was one of the most emotional moments in Star Wars history. Their relationship is still unfolding and fans will have to wait and see how it ends, but their incredible bond has already cemented their place as one of the best relationships in Star Wars.

4 Han And Chewbacca

Part best friends and part man and his dog, smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca had a unique relationship. Han was the only one who really understood Chewbacca during the original trilogy, communicating and often bantering with the Wookie with classic lines such as "laugh it up, fuzzball."

Included in Han and Chewie's best scenes together are their goodbye as Han was frozen in carbonite and their return to the Millennium Falcon in The Force Awakens. Their iconic relationship has made them one of cinema's most famous duos ever.

3 R2-D2 And C-3PO

R2-D2 and C-3PO are the unlikely heroes of Star Wars. Somehow the pair of droids saved the day many times, beginning with the smuggling of the Death Star plans, always managing to end up in the middle of the galaxy's most important moments. They are a classic odd-couple pairing as R2-D2 is adventurous and rambunctious while C-3PO is anxious and reserved.

They drove each other crazy and even attempted to get away from each other at times, but underneath the bickering, they had a genuine connection and a strong friendship.

2 Luke And Darth Vader

Many of the stories and conflicts in the Star Wars universe revolve around the Skywalker family drama, especially concerning Anakin and Luke. Rather than kill Luke, Vader was determined to recruit him so they could rule the galaxy together. And despite Darth Vader's commitment to the dark side, Luke never gave up on him and fought to redeem him.

Their relationship contained amazing lightsaber duals, philosophical disagreements, and mutual love and respect. As rivals, their dynamic was memorable but the revelation that Vader is Luke's father elevated the relationship to another level.

1 Han And Leia

Han and Leia are one of the most unlikely, and yet unforgettable, pairings in Star Wars, coming from completely different backgrounds. When they met, she was a princess and he was a wanted smuggler.

But he gained respect for her when he saw her bravery and toughness in combat and she began to see him differently when he came back and joined the rebellion during the assault on the first Death Star. Both stubborn and passionate, their arguments often turned into flirting. Despite their differences, they were perfect matches for each other.
