Terry Crews Is Already Pitching Ideas For A Brooklyn 99 Movie

Actor Terry Crews is apparently already pitching ideas for a Brooklyn Nine-Nine movie ahead of the show's final season. Crews has played the soft-hearted Sergeant Terry Jeffords on the police-comedy since it aired in 2013, often serving as the supportive and nurturing parental figure to the rest of detectives in the Nine-Nine. Across its eight seasons, Crew's character began take on a number of the actor's traits including his strict exercise regimen and a love of yogurt. The show has received critical acclaim since its release and has won multiple awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy in 2014.

The show has been off the air since April 2020, with production on the final season being delayed as a result of pandemic. However, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's producers and writing team have also spent a long time reworking the script for season 8 in the wake of George Floyd's murder and the consequent protests held against police brutality. In response to the protests, and the increased awareness around police brutality, creator and producer Dan Goor reportedly threw out episodes that were ready to go into to better address the issue within the show.

Speaking to Variety about the upcoming final season, Crews reflected on its bittersweet nature and the cast's sadness at seeing the show come to its end. He also acknowledged that when it comes to television, the end is not always the end, notably adding that he is pitching a possible Brooklyn Nine-Nine movie. Crews stated:

“Everybody wants to bring it back and I’m ready. I’m already pitching ideas. Hey, let’s do a Brooklyn Nine-Nine movie; we could do one every year!”

This isn't the first time the crew of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have faced a possible ending, as the show being cancelled at Fox after season 5's conclusion. It was eventually saved by NBC where the series has aired for the last three seasons. While there is certainly scope for the show to be renewed in the future, it seems as though Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 is aiming to bring closure and a true sense of finality to the show in a way that adequately honors the characters and satisfies the fans.

Perhaps a movie would be the better option for a Nine-Nine reunion in the future, each season did have recurrent episodes such as the heist-competitions between the detectives, usually held on Halloween, as well as the inevitable appearance of Doug Judy/the Pontiac Bandit who would always successfully outwit Samberg's Jake Peralta. Both would make for a fun reunion to finally conclude these plot threads. That said, it would perhaps take some time before a movie could be developed.

Community has been trying to deliver on a movie for quite some time, although the enthusiasm of the cast has reportedly helped step up production on the project. If Crews is to be believed, then it would seem that the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine are equally keen to reunite for a film. Fans will just have to wait to see if this is a possibility when the ten episode final season arrives August 12th.
