The Big Bang Theory: 8 Characters Who Left The Show Too Soon

At its core, The Big Bang Theory is about a group of friends and the ups-and-downs they face as a group, in relationships, and at work. And while Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, and co. are the stars of the show, there is a good amount of characters who brought a breath of fresh air to the show but left before fans were done with them.

From family members to coworkers, it was refreshing having new characters appear in various storylines as a way of having new interactions with the main characters. With the guys working at Caltech and Penny working with Bernadette, the best way to meet new characters was at work. But sadly some of these characters didn't last as long as fans would have liked.

8 Alfred Hofstadter

One of the reasons fans love Leonard is because of his relatable anxieties surrounding family. His relationship with his mom was never strong but not much was known about his dad, Alfred. Alfred finally made an appearance at the end of season 9 and again in season 10 when Leonard and Penny renewed their vows in front of their friends and family.

Alfred got along swimmingly with Mary Cooper and Leonard's friends. He also had iconic comebacks against his ex-wife, Beverly. Watching his relationship grow with Leonard would have been rewarding for viewers.

7 Alex Jensen

Alex Jensen is a character who didn't have a lot of screen time but she made a strong impact on both Sheldon and Leonard. Sheldon hired Alex as a research assistant and it became quickly noted that she was overqualified for the position but really wanted to work with Sheldon's genius.

Sheldon's interactions with Alex were so awkward that it was hard not to laugh at their time together. Likewise, when it became clear that Alex had a crush on Leonard—while he was dating Penny—fans were hoping for more of a dramatic storyline between the three. Surprisingly, Alex disappeared without much a conclusion on her whereabouts.

6 Janine Davis

Some of Sheldon's funniest scenes were when he was in Janine Davis's office. He was so out of touch with reality that Janine didn't know where to start with him.

Mrs. Davis was the head of human resources at Caltech and had to handle Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj when they misbehaved in the workplace. The gang could have learned a lot from Janine Davis, which is what fans were hoping for but she didn't pop up in many episodes.

5 Meemaw

As important as Meemaw was to Sheldon, it's criminal that she was only in one episode and barely mentioned again after. When Sheldon and Amy broke up, it hit Sheldon hard and he turned to his Meemaw for support. She traveled to Pasadena to meet Amy for the first time once they got back together so she could size her up.

She was tiny, feisty, and protective of her "Moon Pie." What's better is that Sheldon lit up like a Christmas tree around his grandmother. It was hard to see her go afterward.

4 Josh Wolowitz

Howard was shocked when a man named Josh Wolowitz appeared on his doorstep claiming to be his half-brother. The two got to know each other a little better before Josh left, but what was odd about this interaction was that Josh was never seen or heard of again after this episode.

If the writers were going to bring someone in as important as Howard's sibling, why didn't they involve him more? Fans would have loved to get to know Josh more and get to know his side of Howard's family. It seemed like a wasted opportunity.

3 Tam

Sheldon thought he had every comeback in the world when he ran into his former best friend and current nemesis Tam Nguyen in season 12. As it turned out, Tam was Sheldon's righthand man and best friend when in Texas. The two promised to move to California together but only Sheldon followed through. When Tam didn't move, Sheldon felt abandoned and put Tam on his enemies' list.

Tam, however, had no idea he and Sheldon were on bad terms and missed him. Knowing that there was another version of Leonard out there who loved Sheldon as much as Leonard did made fans want more Tam. But Tam didn't last longer than one episode.

2 Leslie Winkle

Where did Leslie Winkle run off to after season 3? She was such a fun presence on screen because she got along great with Howard, Leonard, and Raj but loathed everything about Sheldon. In fact, no one would have seen a friendship between Leslie and Sheldon from a mile away.

She did, however, make an appearance in season 9 to celebrate Sheldon's birthday but that was the last of Winkle. Fans would go on to miss her sassy one-liners to Sheldon and romantic tension with Leonard and Howard.

1 Claire

Was Claire the one who got away? Raj and Claire had open and honest communication from the start because they were strictly friends. But once Raj realized he had feelings for Claire over his girlfriend, Emily, he made an attempt at wooing and dating Claire.

But just as the case with Alex Jensen and Meemaw, Claire and Raj ended without much of an explanation. She would have made an excellent part of the group and she had more in common with the group than other exes.
