What If? Poster Reveals Thanos-Armor Gamora & Doctor Strange Spider-Man

A new poster for Marvel's What If...? features a Thanos-armored Gamora and a Doctor Strange Spider-Man. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) begins Phase 4 of its theatrical releases with Black Widow, stories have continued to be told away from the silver screen. Over the course of the past year, audiences have gotten the chance to see WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and are nearing the end of the first season of Loki. However, this is only the beginning of Marvel exploring the multiverse, especially as the release date approaches for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The upcoming Marvel Studios animated show is an anthology. It tells the story of what would happen if things went differently in pivotal moments of the MCU. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews, who worked in the art department on previous MCU projects, including Avengers: Endgame and Doctor Strange. Meanwhile, A.C. Bradley serves as the head writer (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia). The show will still be considered part of Phase 4 and will be composed of ten episodes.

The Black Panther Twitter page released a poster for the upcoming What If...? Disney+ series. The poster hints at some of the stories that it will be exploring through the appearances of the characters. A couple of the most notable include Gamora wearing Thanos' armor and Spider-Man with Doctor Strange's cloak. Check out the poster below:

Some of the stories in this anthology have already been teased in already released trailers, including Marvel Zombies. Some of the original comic arcs are a bit questionable, although it's still worth seeing how the series approaches these stories. Given that many of the characters will be voiced by their film actor counterparts, it's clear that this is intended to still be part of the MCU, even though it's an animated series. Viewers will have to wait and see how it connects to the films moving forward.

Back in 2018, Sony released the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. It made $375 million worldwide on a reported $90 million budget, showing that audiences aren't turned off by animation. When it comes to making a good superhero film or television series, it ultimately comes down to good storytelling and entertaining action sequences. Hopefully What If...? lives up to expectations.
