Why Top Chef Amateurs Spin-Off Is So Exciting For Superfans Of The Show

The latest Top Chef spin-off, Top Chef Amateursis all about giving the people what they want. If there's a fan sitting at home thinking about what they would make for each Top Chef challenge, then this is the show for them. Superfans and amateur chefs are paired with all-star chefs from the series to take on challenges adapted from the original show in this heartwarming new spin-off.

Top Chef's devoted fan base is finally getting to test out their own cooking skills. Executive producers Zoe Jackson and Cat Sullivan spoke to Screen Rant about their new show, Top Chef Amateurs, and why it's so special for fans. "We really wanted to make sure the superfans got the full experience," explained Zoe. "From being paired up with an alum and getting to cook with them, to being judged by an alum, and Gail being there in the Top Chef kitchen." Each contestant will also receive their own Top Chef coat and get to experience some of the classic Top Chef challenges. "Zoe and I dug through 700 challenges--quite literally 701 challenges--to get to the core of what makes Top Chef so magical," said Cat. The amateurs were put to the test in some of the most iconic Top Chef challenges.

Besides the fun of watching amateurs and superfans getting to live their dream on Top Chef, there is also an extensive list of fan-favorite chefs joining the cast. Amateurs get to cook alongside all-stars, including Joe Flamm, Eric Adjepong, Shirley Chung, Richard Blais and Jen Carroll. Cat and Zoe emphasized that they chose stars from all across Top Chef's 18 seasons to give the fans a taste of everything. "Outside of All-Stars, you don't really get to see that many people from different seasons interacting with each other," Zoe noted, "You've got your faves doing different stuff, competing against each other, judging with each other--and judging each other, which is really interesting and fun."

Cat and Zoe also mentioned that while the Top Chef spin-off won't be following the same chefs from episode to episode, Top Chef Amateurs won't lose any of the heart and camaraderie that fans of the original show love. "We wanted to make sure this was fun and funny but also heartwarming," said Zoe. "We wanted people to walk away, whether they won or lost, feeling like they had done something really special." Cat added, "People are just getting to live their dream out on camera in the kitchen with people that they've idolized for years."

Bringing the all-star chefs and amateurs together is special for Top Chef fans and for the crew. Fans will be able to relate to the fun and emotional experience of being in the Top Chef kitchen and meeting some of their favorite chefs. And aside from that, there are still the challenges to get through.

Top Chef Amateurs airs Thursdays at 9pm on Bravo.
