Tosi is best known for being the founder of Milk Bar, though she has appeared as a judge on Masterchef and Masterchef Junior. The baking competition star shared on her website that she began baking by accident while majoring in mathematics. Initially, Tosi went to college to study electrical engineering but then explored other career options. For example, she considered becoming a translator while traveling in Italy. After a few years, Tosi decided to attend the French Culinary Institute in New York instead. David Chang hired her to run his pastry program within the Momofuku brand. She has a knack for creating and selecting standout desserts.
A space next to a Momofuku Ssam Bar opened up in a New York location, which meant a new opportunity. Of course, NYC is an excellent TV series backdrop too. Tosi took the initiative, opening up a different eatery to complement its neighbor. Her boss David encouraged her to take that leap. Milk Bar started as one bakery in 2008, in New York’s East Village. It has since grown into a chain of restaurants that focus on the sweet side, delivering a taste of childhood in each and every bite.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Milk Bar began to sell signature cookies online and in grocery stores, including Whole Foods. Many restaurants had to close for safety reasons and Milk Bar was no exception.
