First introduced in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, Gunfight was an immediate success amongst those who found themselves spending the majority of time playing multiplayer. Offering a nice break from some of the game's bigger maps and more involved game modes, Gunfight brings the player experience back to the basics by offering quick matches of nothing but gunplay.
Many players had already found themselves doing something similar in custom matches with friends so having a game mode catered to a 2 or 3 man team was obviously a major hit, and a no-brainer to bring back for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The maps are everything in Gunfight and can make or break the game mode.
7 U-Bahn
Easily the least favorite amongst most players, U-Bahn isn't the worst map the franchise has ever seen by any means but it is far from the best. The map features numerous elements that are traditionally disliked by players, with the most notable being the lighting.
Allowing players to hide in the dark is always frustrating for players and with U-Bahn, there is also the line of sight issue on the map that leads plenty to places to camp and frustrate opposing players. The map just doesn't flow the way a Gunfight map should.
6 Mansion
Although the lighting on this map is better than on U-Bahn, there are several other issues that make it less than ideal for 2v2 or 3v3 gameplay. Most notable is the amount of vertical space on the map.
With so many balconies that look into the center of the map, there is simply no reason to ever venture into the main courtyard, as players would be visible from virtually every direction and would likely end in them getting shot in the back. The map itself is also quite large, slowing down the gameplay in a game mode where speed is the main draw, compared to other modes.
5 Diesel
Although the map itself isn't bad, it simply should not be a Gunfight map. Diesel is the only Gunfight map that is also set for 6v6 play, and it is simply too big for the game mode. When playing 3v3 on Diesel, the spawn points for the two teams are closer to the middle of the map in order to encourage players to play in a smaller area.
This seems like a good idea, however, it is ineffective as players can simply turn around utilize the large space behind them in order to hide, or find a good spot to snipe from.
4 Amsterdam
One of the few Gunfight maps that are not perfectly symmetrical, Amsterdam provides some of the most unique gameplay in the game mode. Not too dark, not too many hiding spots, and not too big, there isn't much to complain about here.
Many players find the map's topography changes to be fluid and make for more interesting engagements as there are tons of places to flank and escape to if the bullets start flying. The added obstacle of potentially falling off the map is also a welcome touch. Maps like this make a case for Gunfight being the best game mode in Cold War, besides prop hunt, obviously.
3 ICBM
Commonly known as the rocket map, the tight quarters and plenty of covers offered in this map have made it a favorite amongst those who spend most of their time in the game mode. Although many would expect an underground map to have lighting problems that make gameplay difficult and frustrating, the map is surprisingly well lit, thanks to various flashing and spinning lights that players can use strategically to get the jump on an enemy.
Minimal lines of sight and a mostly flat playing field also make the gameplay incredibly quick, although the weapon choice can heavily affect gameplay on the map.
2 Game Show
Perhaps the most unique and most visually appealing map, Game Show is easily the second-best Gunfight map in the game so far. With an aesthetic that is somewhat reminiscent of the popular Zombie's map Kino Der Toten, this truly is an eye-catcher.
With quick gameplay and minimal places to hide, this map allows players to take it back to the basics and just focus on creative movement and just how good players are with their guns. The map also features large curtains that are the main view obstruction on the map allowing players to get creative and shoot through walls for some awesome plays.
1 KGB
Perfect size, perfect lighting, and nowhere to hide, make this the best Gunfight map in the game. Taking place in the KGB headquarters featured in the campaign, the map is nice and bright thanks to all the marble. Although some players may say it's a little too simple, the simplicity is where Gunfight can truly shine as a game mode.
The map follows the traditional 3 lane format that most Call of Duty maps feature, however, the hallways and staircase make for unique lines of sight as well as creating a situation where teamwork and communication are essential as players can easily flank enemies once the match gets down to 2v1.
