DCEU: The Suicide Squad Characters, Ranked By Bravery

With plot armor being a non-factor in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, anybody could have died in the movie and a whole lot certainly did bite the dust. This makes the characters’ courage and confidence stand out for those who did possess it while pointing out the cowardice in those who were unscrupulous or easily scared.

The plot of entering the dangerous Corto Maltese and facing the alien creature Starro saw Amanda Waller send two teams of Task Force X, with only a few valiant ones surviving. Not all the deceased were cowardly, though, and it’s worth stacking up the main characters to see who was the bravest of the bunch.

10 Amanda Waller

Although she generally has a knack for keeping her cool, Amanda Waller proved it’s just an act when she was willing to get people killed without remorse. Waller’s facade of bravery only lasts when she has leverage on people, without which she’s powerless, and resorts to screaming after losing control.

Moreover, Waller was never in a position of danger through the movie, as she coldly sent Task Force X to certain doom without a care for their demises. As the person who’s harbored the most secrets in the DCEU, Waller’s ruthlessness is merely based on a position of power, not out of any inherent bravery.

9 The Thinker

Although he was pretty brave when Task Force X had him apprehended, this lasted up until Starro was released. Prior to that, The Thinker assumed the team would side him when he revealed the U.S. government was in on the experimentation of innocent people and had no reason to be threatened.

After Starro was freed and came after The Thinker for torturing him for decades, the latter dropped all pretense of bravery and was reduced to a blubbering mess. He died a coward’s death by attempting to convince Starro that he’d learned his lesson hoping he’d be let go but was ripped to shreds instead.

8 King Shark

On the one hand, King Shark displayed next to no fear throughout the events of the movie, even after witnessing so many violent deaths. On the flip side, this was due to his lack of understanding of what was happening, as King Shark didn’t realize that he was on a mission where his life was threatened.

The only point he did comprehend this was when he was being attacked by the killer fish, which was when King Shark was shown crying out in fright. Still, he did return to fight Starro, proving that there was a definite level of courage within him as well.

7 Polka-Dot Man

Having spent the majority of the movie not wanting to fight and carrying a death wish, Polka-Dot Man was revealed to be this way due to the abuse suffered from his mother. After coming to terms with this, he revealed a far braver side of himself, so much so that he took on Starro alone.

This came after he’d hid in fright from the forces in Corto Maltese, with Polka-Dot Man very much unwilling to engage at that point. Ultimately, though, it was a matter of overcoming his personal demons, as Polka-Dot Man certainly went down valiantly by defying Starro’s push for victory and not realizing he was about to get squashed to death.

6 Harley Quinn

Harley is a special case in this regard, as her erratic emotions sometimes lead her to act extremely courageously while other times, she’s been shown in fear. There’s also the fact that her lack of being scared is a result of her psyche, as Harley seemed to enjoy the pain she was being subjected to while under questioning.

For this reason, she’s slightly tipped toward the bravery scale as Harley did willingly impale Starro with the javelin. While she was scared along with the rest of the team that got massacred at the beginning, Harley showed that she was lionhearted when she was around similar characters.

5 Ratcatcher 2

She will most likely be remembered for delivering most of the memorable quotes in The Suicide Squad, as Ratcatcher 2 had a real sense of wisdom. In addition to that, she was a bold person, having shrugged off the likelihood of being eaten by King Shark due to her faith in friendship.

Ratcatcher 2 also had moments where she was very much scared, such as when she wept for her life when Peacemaker was about to shoot her. Overall, though, she was a brave individual who carried herself in greater confidence by the end when she sicced all the rats on Starro.

4 Bloodsport

The DCEU incarnation is different from the Bloodsport in DC comics stories who was hardly as ballsy as the one here. Bloodsport’s main fear was his phobia of rats, along with the general sense of not wanting to die a violent death as many others did.

However, his character development led to Bloodsport displaying a real act of bravery when he defied Waller’s threat of blowing him up and went to confront Starro. Bloodsport also overcame his rat phobia by the end, following his leadership of the team that saw him fight off Starro’s spawns to save all of Corto Maltese.

3 Sol Soria

A rather underrated part of the story, Sol Soria deserves praise for fighting against the government without any special abilities and after her resistance fighters were killed by Task Force X. She was well aware of the dangers that lay ahead but still kept on with the mission of liberating her country.

Her boldness did have its limits, as she opted to let Task Force X go after Jotunheim and Starro while she went after the capitol. Then again, she can hardly be blamed for not fighting an alien monster well out of her pay grade, and Soria did have the guts to march into the capitol building and put an end to the dictatorship regime.

2 Peacemaker

If Peacemaker was a character from the Harry Potter series, he would definitely be sorted into Hogwarts’ Gryffindor house. That’s because he was so brave that he essentially developed a hero complex. Peacemaker was never afraid of dying, failing, or even facing hordes of enemies.

Instead, he relished on the idea of fighting as he staunchly believed in peace in whatever form it came. His one display of cowardice was his reluctance to go against the government, lacking the morality and courage needed to do the right thing and releasing the evidence to the public,

1 Rick Flag

Rick Flag went down the way of a warrior, having only the betterment of the people in mind even though it killed him. Flag went after saving Harley despite being aware that he was walking into a dictator’s fortress, while later turning on Waller and deserting the government when he found out about their crimes against humanity,

Flag prevailed in the bravery department where Peacemaker failed, as he was truly heroic with the feeling that he would rather die than willingly let people suffer. Even his dying words were in defiance of Peacemaker, with Flag having no regrets over his hope to set the people of Corto Maltese free.
