Former Dancing With the Stars contestant Hayes Grier was arrested recently in North Carolina for allegedly beating a man while trying to rob him. Hayes gained popularity after being discovered on Vine and gaining a following. He was so popular, he was able to maintain his fame once Vine was bought out and the app ceased to exist. He now has over two million followers on Twitter, and 5.8 million on YouTube and Instagram. He isn't the only famous person in his family, with his older brother Nash also famous on social media, and his oldest brother Will being a part of the NFL, playing for the Carolina Panthers. Hayes has also released a book called Hollywood Days with Hayes, and has a reality show called Top Grier.
Hayes opened himself up to a whole new audience when he participated in season 21 of Dancing With the Stars. He was partnered up with pro dancer Emma Slater and at 15 years old, was the youngest male contestant to ever participate on the show. After having his one of his best nights on the show, Hayes was voted out on week seven, and came in eighth place overall. In his last week, he performed a waltz to the song Once Upon a Dream, and he participated in a team dance to the song This Is Halloween. He was eliminated on the show's annual Disney night. For his team dance, Hayes received his first perfect score of the season.
Hayes Grier is now facing criminal charges after he was arrested in North Carolina for allegedly beating a man in an attempted robbery. According to TMZ, police arrested him after they procured enough evidence against him proving he committed the crime which took place last Monday. The warrant states Hayes attacked his victim, William Marklof, and then stole his $1,200 phone. After the warrant was issued, Hayes was brought to North Carolina from California and placed under arrest and put into a county jail in Mecklenburg County on Friday. He was arrested on charges of common law robbery, felony conspiracy and assault serious bodily injury.
While it is unclear what the specifics of the crime were, there was enough information in the warrant to assume the victim suffered serious injuries. The police claim William now has a broken orbital bone and bruised ribs. Most concerningly, William is said to have incurred brain damage, bleeding from the back of his head, and loss of hearing in one ear. There is said to be more injuries, but they have not been provided. The police believe Hayes committed the crime in alliance with Luke Fouchee, who they believe to be his accomplice. This suspicion, however, has not yet led to another arrest.
There is a history of reality stars finding their way down the wrong path after finding fame suddenly on social media. Logan and Jake Paul lost a portion of their following after causing controversies in their videos. Jerry Harris from Cheer was recently arrested for possession of child pornography. It is always sad when a fan favorite falls from grace and passes the point of no return. Some are able to find their way back, while others find themselves cancelled forever. It is only a matter of time before it becomes clear whether or not this social media and former Dancing With the Stars star will fall from grace forever, or if he will find his way back to the limelight. He is still young, and his fans will likely forgive him for his poor decision making.
