Final Fantasy & Fortnite Have An Odd Ariana Grande Connection

Pop singer Ariana Grande has a strange connection to both the Final Fantasy and Fortnite video game franchises. The incredible popularity of Fortnite has led to it becoming a hub for crossovers, as companies want their characters and franchises exposed to a massive audience of gamers, but there's also a Final Fantasy crossover with one celebrity that many fans aren't aware of, one both franchises share.

Celebrities appearing in video games is nothing new, especially in an era where it's easy to license a performer's appearance while being able to scan their face to use for 3D models, and having them record their own voice lines, as was the case with Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077.  Fortnite has featured characters from DC, Marvel, John Wick, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, The Walking Dead, G.I. Joe, Street Fighter, Predator, Alien, and Tomb Raider. The game even brought Microsoft and Sony characters together, with Kratos and Master Chief both appearing as Fortnite skins, which is something that even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been unable to do.

Fortnite has also featured a number of skins based on real people, mostly athletes, and YouTubers. Ariana Grande is now part of Fortenite as a skin, which means players can unlock her appearance and play as her in the game. Yet while this has likely been the first exposure many gamers have had to Ariana Grande as a playable video game character, she became part of one of the biggest franchises in JRPG history several years before she wound up in Fortnite.

In 2017, Ariana Grande was added to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius as a playable character named Dangerous Ariana. She has since appeared as a guest character multiple times, in the form of Charming Kitty Ariana, Chic Ariana, and Sportive Ariana. This means Ariana Grande has been a playable character in both series, in several guises, though she's technically not the only one to have accomplished this, as Lara Croft also appeared as a summonable unit in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and as a skin in Fortnite as well. The Ariana Grande skin was added as part of a crossover appearance, as she held several in-game concerts within Fortnite

Ariana Grande isn't even the only pop star playable in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, as Katy Perry was added to the game in 2018, joining the ranks of playable Final Fantasy heroes. It seems that characters like Cloud Strife, Terra Branford, Zidane Tribal, Tidus, and Ramza Beoulve are rubbing shoulders with some of the most popular pop stars in the world, and perhaps most interestingly, this also means that both Ariana Grande and Katy Perry theoretically even have the right to appear in future Dissidia games.
