Gilmore Girls: 10 Off-Screen Events That Fans Wish They Could See

There's always something happening in Gilmore Girls' Stars Hollow, but Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of the show, often refrains from diving deep into the characters' emotional states. Instead, she resolves some of their biggest interpersonal problems and dramas off-screen.

Throughout the show's seven seasons reboot, A Year in the Life, fans missed out on many crucial moments in their favorite characters' arcs that the show decided not to include. For a series that focuses so heavily on friendships, family, and romantic relationships, it's curious to look at how many breakups, makeups, and adventures were skipped altogether.

10 Rory's Reaction To Lorelai & Luke Kissing

A lot happened on the night Lorelai and Luke kissed for the first time. The Dragonfly Inn welcomed the Stars Hollow residents for the first time, Jason patiently waited for Lorelai in the lobby to get back with her (and then disappeared), and most importantly, Rory lost her virginity to Dean.

Afterward, Lorelai and Rory had one of their worst arguments, so Lorelai never got the chance to tell Rory about the romantic kiss she shared with Luke. She told Rory eventually, but fans will never know how Rory took the news upon hearing it. Was she shocked, happy, or surprised?

9 Michel & Tobin's Birthday Gift Battle For Lorelai

Michel was a bit of a misanthrope, in general, but he especially detested Tobin, the night manager. On Lorelai's birthday, Michel gave Lorelai a beautiful gift, which Tobin topped with Joe Strummer's leather jacket.

Michel wanted to outdo him, so he ran through the door in search of a better gift. It's not known whether he ever found one, but it's very unlikely. Fans never got to see how the birthday gift battle unfolded, but considering Michel's attitude towards Tobin in the following episodes, it's safe to say he never topped his gift.

8 Jess & Rory Dating

After a season of building up tension between the two, Jess and Rory finally started dating in season 3. Unfortunately, fans didn't get to see much of their dates and what they talked about once they got together. Neither did they see the famous car crash.

It's unfortunate that Amy Sherman-Palladino didn't write more scenes with Rory and Jess talking about books, music, and movies once they were together. According to Lorelai, they spent a lot of time together, but from what the audience could see, it looked like Jess completely lost interest in Rory once they started dating.

7 Paris' Dating Life

At Chilton, Paris went on her very first date with her longtime crush, Tristin Dugray. The date presumably went well, in her opinion, but Tristin told her that they should be just friends the next day. Fans will never know who read the room better - Paris or Tristin.

After spending the summer in D.C., Paris met her first boyfriend, Jamie. He took her on a date and she eventually met his parents. During her first year at Yale, she dated Asher Flemming, a renowned author. But sadly, fans never got to see her spend any one-on-one time with her romantic interests.

6 Lane & Dave's Prom & Break Up

Dave Rygalski is one of the most beloved side characters on Gilmore Girls. He went above and beyond to win Mrs. Kim's heart and take Lane to prom, but it's unknown whether or not they had a good time once they went. Their relationship, unfortunately, fizzled out without much closure.

Afterward, Dave went to California for college. It's also unknown how emotional saying goodbye was for the adorable couple. They broke up after fighting about the "marriage jug," but fans will never know what words were exchanged or how heartbroken they were about it.

5 Lorelai & Rory In Europe

With the exception of Hartford and Yale, Gilmore Girls rarely take place outside of Stars Hollow, which is a part of the show's charm. The summer after Rory graduated high school, Lorelai and Rory embarked on their European adventure.

Fans wish they could've seen more of their travels and how they interacted with fellow travelers in hostels. When Rory went to Europe with Emily, fans at least got a little taste of Italy and Emily's flirty side.

4 Rory & Logan's First Date

Rory and Logan's first date happened sometime between "Say Something" and "Jews and Chinese Food." Since Logan ended up being one of the most important people in R0ry's life, it would've been nice to see how that date went.

Furthermore, there's no way of knowing whether the date even happened or not. Logan said he was going out of town. Rory even commented on not seeing him during one of the Friday night dinners, so it could be that Logan disappeared for several weeks and never took Rory out on a date.

3 Luke & Lorelai's First 'I Love You'

Luke and Lorelai shared some unforgettable romantic moments on screen, but the one where they say "I love you" for the first time isn't one of them. As reserved and careful Luke is with his emotions, it must have been a big deal for him to say it.

What fans get instead is Luke and Lorelai suddenly being comfortable with professing their love for each other on a daily basis. Once they started dating, their relationship was no longer a slow burn like before. Instead, they were instantly "all in," so fans missed many crucial moments in their romance.

2 Max's Reaction To Lorelai Breaking Up With Him

One of the most immature things that Lorelai did was to break up with Max on their wedding day without telling him. She simply took off instead, taking the audience with her.

It's unknown how exactly Lorelai broke up with him. Judging from the awkward conversation at Chilton in season 3, it's safe to assume that she never told him and he had to figure out what happened all by himself. After all, he knew Lorelai had commitment issues.

1 Sookie's Wedding

Sookie got married to Jackson in the season 2 finale, but the wedding was completely overshadowed by Lorelai getting back together (and breaking up) with Christopher and Rory kissing Jess for the very first time.

Sookie is one of the most important supporting characters, so it would've been nice to see her walk down the aisle, dance with Jackson, or cut the wedding cake. Instead, the audience only got to see her freak out in the kitchen before the ceremony.
