Thanks to new footage from CinemaCon, Jurassic World: Dominion is said to definitely answer the question as to whether or not humans and dinosaurs can coexist. The third Jurassic World film is set to be an ambitious outing that unites the stars of the current franchise, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, with the returning cast of the 1993 original, as Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum are all reprising their roles. In addition, Colin Trevorrow has returned to direct the film after having previously directed 2015's massively successful Jurassic World.
Jurassic World: Dominion is said to pick up following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Fallen Kingdom saw dinosaurs brought to North America for an underworld auction before they were set free amongst the human population. Jurassic World 3 will also feature a dual storyline, one following the Jurassic World characters and another following the original Jurassic Park characters. Those storylines are said to connect in what is likely to be a monumental moment for franchise fans. To date, Dominion has given small tastes of what to expect, having released the short film Battle at Big Rock, and even showing an exclusive prologue before F9 Imax screenings. However, CinemaCon sought to elucidate further details.
During Universal's CinenmaCon presentation, a sizzle real for Jurassic World: Dominion was shared with attendees. That footage featured numerous behind-the-scenes moments, even going back to Steven Speilberg on the set of the original Jurassic Park where he talks about John Hammond's cane, which was prominently featured in the film to show off the mosquito trapped in amber on its handle. Trevorrow also appears in the footage, stating that the film will answer a pressing question, saying, "This movie asks a single question: if dinosaurs lived amongst us, would you be safe?" He then quickly responds with, "And the answer is no."
Given that each Jurassic Park and Jurassic World film has effectively shown the conflict between humans and dinosaurs, it was unlikely that the answer Trevorrow gave would've been anything but no. However, with Jurassic World: Dominion set to bet the end of this current film trilogy, it would seem as though Trevorrow wants his finale to lay the question to rest once and for all. Plus, if the franchise were to ever continue after Dominion, the core conflict seems to remain unchanged for the time being.
The CincemaCon sizzle real worked to build on nostalgia, even for the actors involved, as Bryce Dallas Howard recalled crying during the original Jurassic Park when she first saw dinosaurs. With the addition of the original film's cast, Jurassic World 3 looks to bring that same feeling to eager audiences who also grew up with the movies. However, bringing back the original cast for a story that will definitively prove that humans and dinosaurs can't coexist may be building to a sad moment, such as one of their deaths. The Star Wars franchise recently found its way back to the box office, and it brought along a lot of the stars from the original movies, many of whom met their demise in those very films. So with Jurassic World 3 doing the same, it begs the question of whether or not they will attempt to do the same in order to heighten the conflict that Trevorrow wants to show. For audiences looking to have all their questions answered, Jurassic World: Dominion is set to release on June 1o, 2022.
