KUWTK: Why Kim Kardashian May Have Given Up On Law School Explained

For a while now, Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian has been actively pursuing a legal career and advocating for prison reform. In a recent episode of the show, the reality star revealed that she didn’t pass the first exam required for completion of her law degree. Naturally frustrated by this setback, Kim may have given up on her law career.

Two years ago, Kim announced on Instagram that she was starting a four-year program to become a lawyer. A big reason why she wants to pursue a career in law is because of her father, the late Robert Kardashian Sr., who was a well-known attorney. Kardashian was also interested in a law career because of her passion for prison reform. “I had to think long and hard about this,” the KUWTK star said about her decision to pursue a law degree. “I just feel like the system could be so different and I want to fight to fix it. If I know more, I could do more,” she added, according to Vogue

When news of Kim’s decision to attend law school broke, there was a backlash. Many felt that a model, influencer, and reality star shouldn't become a lawyer. Kardashian responded on Instagram: “I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes.” Despite this empowering statement, SKIMS owner Kim has faced some roadblocks on her law school journey.

Since Kim doesn’t have an undergraduate degree, she is taking a special route to become a lawyer. Part of this process required her to take a preliminary exam called the baby bar. “If you do law school the way that I am doing it, it is a four year program instead of your typical three year program, and after year one, you have to take the baby bar,” the SKIMS owner explained in a confessional during a KUWTK episode. She also added that the baby bar exam is more challenging than the official bar. In a room with Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, and Khloé Kardashian, Kim revealed, “So, you guys, I did not pass the baby bar.” Her mentor Jessica Jackson stated that she received a score of 474, but needed a minimum of 560. Kardashian studied for the law exam “six weeks straight, 10 to 12 hours a day.

Kim added, “It was so important for me to take this, and to not pass gets your spirit down and makes you want to give up.” She went on to explain how the worst part was all the time she spent away from Kanye West (he was still her husband at the time) and kids, only to end up feeling like a “failure.” Kim said, “Like I can’t do it again, I don’t have time.” Jessica chimed in, “That is extremely close on a test that most people are not taking in the middle of a pandemic.” In addition to world events that impacted all of us, Kim has young children to care for, several businesses to operate, a recently ended marriage with Kanye, and more. That’s a lot for someone to deal with when trying to study before a stressful law exam

Since failing the baby bar, Kim hasn’t shared her next move when it comes to her law degree. Since she was fairly close to passing, some fans hope she’ll try the exam again before giving up completely. However, she’s expressed a lot of frustration about failing and also complained about trying to find time to study due to her hectic lifestyle. It’s possible that Kim has given up on becoming a lawyer due to this setback. If she did give up, it would make sense, considering how established her life is as a mother, business owner, and influencer. Maybe Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim doesn't have room in her life for a law career.
