Marvel Comics Just Gave Thor's Mother A Badass Makeover

Warning! Spoilers for Thor #16 by Marvel Comics below

Freyja has finally reappeared in the Marvel Universe, and Thor's adopted mother got a badass makeover. In Thor #16, Freyja and her daughter Angela end up calling a meeting with and confronting Thor and Odin, telling them she'd like a word with them while wielding a massive sword and a brand new costume that makes her look cooler than ever before.

In the current Marvel Comics continuity, Thor struggles to control Mjolnir as his enchantment is broken after becoming the new All-Father. In addition, Thor can't help but have nightmares of his own death at the hands of Thanos after the Black Winter showed him his future. After leaving his hammer with Captain America, Thor tries to navigate the world without his most powerful weapon. However, after he and Odin are summoned to Vanaheim, Thor encounters his adopted mother and sister, who seem to have an urgent message for her son and former husband.

In Thor #16 by Donny Cates, Michele Bandini, Elisabetta D'Amico, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Joe Sabino, Thor takes the Bifrost to the Singing Forests of Vanaheim, where he runs into his father. Thor is enraged to see Odin, as he calls him out for using his mother's name to gain his attention. As Odin tries to tell Thor he didn't summon him, a giant monster attacks the pair. Thankfully, Freyja and Angela arrive, with the former using her massive sword to slice through the monster. Thor and Odin look up as Freyja reveals it's nice to see her son again.

Freyja - who goes by Frigga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - gets a badass new costume. She wears a black and white set of armor, with a sword so big it would make Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 proud. Not only does Freyja wield the massive sword, but she has a smaller version in its holster. The chest plate resembles Thor's redesign from the first arc of Cates and Klein's story. All in all, Freyja has never looked more badass.

While Freyja might not be Thor's biological mother (thanks to some serious retconning), she still welcomes the sight of her son. As for Odin, she seemingly doesn't want anything to do with him and has moved on from her former husband. But, Freyja seems very curious about what's going on with Thor's hammer and how it could impact the Ten Realms. Readers can see Freyja's new look and big sword in action as Thor #16 is in comic book stores now.
