Midnight Mass Images Tease Hill House Creator’s New Netflix Horror Series

Netflix reveals the first photos from Midnight Mass, offering a look at the cast and characters for Mike Flanagan's new Netflix horror series. As with his previous Netflix series projects, The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, the show has been written and directed by creator Flanagan. The story centers on the isolated community of Crockett Island whose divisions are amplified with the arrival of disgraced Riley Flynn and the mysterious-yet-charismatic Father Paul, the latter of who bring seemingly miraculous events that may come at a cost.

The cast for Midnight Mass reunites Flanagan with The Haunting stars Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Annabeth Gish, Robert Longstreet, Rahul Kohli, Samantha Sloyan and Alex Essoe alongside Zach Gilford as Flynn and Hamish Linklater as Father Paul. Development on the series was announced shortly before Flanagan entered production on The Haunting of Bly Manor and is one of two projects the filmmaker has upcoming at the streaming platform alongside a series adaptation of The Midnight Club. Having initially seen its production delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Midnight Mass shot from August to December of last year and is now gearing up to hit Netflix this September.

On the heels of unveiling the first trailer for the series, Netflix has revealed the first photos from Midnight Mass. The images offer a better glimpse at some of the cast for the series, namely Gilford's Riley Flynn and Linklater's Father Paul, as well as tease some dark tragedies set to befall the town of Crockett Island. Check out the new images below:

With the majority of his prior works acting as character-driven narratives on a smaller scale, the first images for Midnight Mass seem to point towards one of the larger roster of characters in Flanagan's filmography to date. Even with a bigger scope, however, the first trailer and images for the series certainly seem to highlight a select few persons of interest for its story, namely Linklater's Father Paul, Gilford's Flynn and Siegel's Erin Greene. If the official synopsis of the series is any indication, all residing in the town of Crockett Island are sure to find their lives upended and terrified to their core by the end of it all.

Though some may have been holding out hope for another installment in The Haunting franchise, the first trailer and images for Midnight Mass are certainly pointing towards another horrifying win for Mike Flanagan. Given the creator has also cited the series as the favorite of all of his projects thus far and thematically close to his heart the story is, anticipation is very high for the latest collaboration between Flanagan and Netflix. Only time will tell if the series can clear the bars being set by fans when it arrives on Netflix on September 24.
