New Horizons Player Creates a Literal Animal Crossing On Their Island

A clever Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has arguably made one of the most meta creations to date in the Nintendo life simulator: a literal animal crossing. Even though the title is well into its second year post-launch, the Animal Crossing player base still manages to come up with new creations that can be as complicated as scenes from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away.

Players often push the boundaries of what can be made in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and oftentimes the creative endeavors revolve around other notable intellectual properties that have little to do with the colorful life simulator, such as recreating a Dark Souls summon sign. It seems rare, however, for a member of the community to design something that makes direct reference to Animal Crossing itself. Compared to other intellectual properties, there may not be as much material for fans to take inspiration from when it comes to making something different. But that does not mean a clever Animal Crossing player can't still come up with something unique.

Reddit user gamesam2020 recently posted an image of a self-referential creation made in New Horizons that is a literal animal crossing. Not only is there a crosswalk to indicate a safe place for the island denizens to walk, but there are actual animals (villagers) trying to cross the street. Gamesam2020's screenshot depicts four distinct groups featuring cats, dogs, pandas, and hamsters all meeting at the crossing. GameSam also showed some behind the scenes information on how they created this image in a YouTube video.

Compared to many other recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons creations, this one seems much more simple. The difficulty with pulling something off like this comes more in getting the villagers into the right positions. Gamesam2020 shed some light on how exactly they pulled this off by posting a link in the comments to a YouTube video that chronicles the creation process of this Animal Crossing image. By using a mic, gamesam2020 was able to get each villager into position individually and then edited the final picture together later.

Though the means to create this photo were not entirely pulled off naturally just by only using Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the feat still displays an extreme level of patience, dedication, and resourcefulness. It seems incredibly unlikely for something like this to be done any other way and gamesam2020 should be congratulated for not only their work but also for sharing their process. Trying to wrangle four villagers at once may be too much for any player to pull off without a little clever ingenuity.
