Warning! Spoilers for Batman: Urban Legends #6 below
The Red Hood just saved Batman from making his greatest mistake ever. Under the influence of a special fear toxin created by the supervillain Cheer, Batman nearly succumbed to his darkest urges and murdered his opponent in cold blood. Thankfully, Jason Todd - who knows a thing or two about killing - helped him see straight and avoid making a decision he could never take back.
One of the tales told in the Batman: Urban Legends anthology is an excellent Batman and Red Hood story about the pair coming together against a common threat. The series has seen Jason Todd reexamine his approach as a hero, as he found himself a father figure to a young boy after he killed his abusive, drug-addict father. Throughout the comic, Batman and the Red Hood still have plenty of disagreements and arguments. But, it's up to the former Robin to save his mentor before a fear toxin either kills him or has him kill.
In Batman Urban Legends #6 by Chip Zdarsky, Eber Ferreira, Scott Eaton, Julio Ferreira, Oclair Albert, Marcus To, Adriano Lucas, and Becca Carey, Jason rushes to help Batman as he's been given a dose of a dangerous toxin by Cheer. After suiting up in his own Batsuit, Jason and the Bat-Family stop Cheer and Mr. Freeze, with the Red Hood never relenting in his quest to save Batman. After breaking him free of his ice shackles, Jason realizes Batman has been superdosed with the toxin - and immediately injects him with the cure. However, the antidote doesn't work right away. Instead, an angry Batman charges after Cheer and hangs him off the side of a building. But, before he's dropped, Jason comes to Batman's side.
All Jason has ever wanted for Batman was to kill the Joker and get revenge on the man who killed him. So, to see him nearly kill a villain but encourage him to stop before it's too late is quite the bit of character growth for him. In wise words to Bruce, Jason tells him Cheer is not the guy worth finally crossing the line and killing.
The moment had a dramatic impact on Jason, as he later tells Bruce he's giving up killing (but that doesn't mean he won't be violent). In an excellent comic that further fleshed out the complicated relationship between Batman and the Red Hood, Jason saved his former father-figure from making the greatest mistake of his life. It's a fabulous ending to an excellent arc. Batman Urban Legends #6 is in comic book stores now.
