Photos from season 3 of Sex Education reveal Otis' new mustache and Eric's date with Adam. The Netflix original series aired in 2019 and quickly caught on with teens and young adults for its candid exploration of sex and sexuality. The show centers on a self-conscious high-schooler named Otis (Asa Butterfield), his sex therapist mother Jean (Gillian Anderson), and his openly gay best friend Eric (Ncuti Gatwa). The first episode sets the stage for the series as Otis inadvertently helps the school bully and headmaster's son, Adam (Connor Swindells), through a sexual crisis and subsequently starts an underground sex therapy clinic at school with the help of Maeve (Emma Mackey).
Like the first two seasons of Sex Education, the third was scheduled to release on Netflix in January, but the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans. The extended wait between seasons has been especially grueling for fans since season 2 ended on a shockingly open-ended note as Otis leaves Maeve a voicemail confessing his love for her. Still, the message is deleted by Issac (George Robinson) before she can listen to it. The first look at season 3 of Sex Education came earlier this summer, teasing a new era at Moordale Secondary School. Now, another look at the new season is here ahead of its premiere on September 17.
Netflix released a total of 6 new photos to promote the upcoming season of Sex Education. The first major takeaway is Otis' new mustache, hinting at the time between seasons and an indication that these characters have matured. After Adam declared his feelings for Eric in the season 2 finale, they appear to be on a bowling date in one photo and a picnic in another. The images also feature a central returning character in Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) and others played by Kedar Williams-Stirling, Chaneil Kular, and Simone Ashley. Check out the new photos below:
Though not featured in the new photos above, season 3 will introduce Jason Issacs as Peter Groff, the older and more successful brother of the former headmaster, Michael (Alistair Petrie). He was placed on leave last season. Issacs will be instantly recognizable to viewers due to his role as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter. Jemima Kirke, best known as Jessa from Girls, will also join the cast as Hope, Moordale's new and stricter headmistress, who will clash with many of the school's progressive students.
Sex Education has consistently been one of Netflix's best-reviewed and most-watched original series for its perfect blend of comedy and drama, replete with nuanced characters and interesting story arcs. So far, every look at the upcoming season has indicated this will continue to be the case. The anticipated third season of Sex Education airs on September 17.
