Sonic Colors: Ultimate Physical Release Has Been Delayed

Nearly two weeks from the release of Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Sega has announced that the physical release will be delayed in some countries. Ever since the start of the global pandemic, there has been an increase in upcoming releases getting delayed as a result of the pandemic.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a remaster with noticeable visual upgrades compared to the original game, but Sonic Colors: Ultimate's new updates help the game stand out. This includes the new mode Rival Rush, which has players race against Metal Sonic in courses. A new wisp called jade ghost will also be added, which will allow Sonic to pass through solid objects to reach hidden areas. Sonic will also be able to customize his gloves and boots with the addition of park tokens.

With the digital release of Sonic Colors: Ultimate so close, SEGA Europe has announced that the physical release will be delayed indefinitely in European countries, the Middle East, and Africa. Excluded from this delay are Australia and New Zealand, as well as the North American release. The reason stated for the delay is due to “unforeseen logistical issues,” and more information will be released in the future regarding another release date.

The news of this physical delay is similar to the physical release of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus being repeatedly delayed. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus included new endings and was released digitally on June 30, but the physical collector’s edition has been repeatedly delayed due to “manufacturing and shipping as a result of COVID-19.” The physical release is currently slated for September 21. However, given that this isn’t the first time it’s been delayed, it’s possible that there could be another delay before this release date.

While the exact reasoning for the delay of Sonic Colors: Ultimate isn’t known, it is a fact that COVID-19 has affected the production of many releases and has been the source of several game delays. It wouldn’t be surprising if the obstacles to the physical release of Sonic Colors: Ultimate was a result of the pandemic. The physical release is still slated for countries like North America, but for those in the EMEA region, players will have to wait a little bit longer for the game to arrive at their doorstep. Delays like these also make purchasing games digitally an appealing alternative in case of these types of situations.
