The 10 Best Characters In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

There aren't many superheroes who have graced the big screen as often as Spider-Man. From the Sam Raimi trilogy to the Marc Webb duology to the Marvel Cinematic Universe version, Spidey has been everywhere. Yet, most fans agree that 2018's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is the pinnacle of those film tales.

The Best Animated Feature Academy Award winner showcases several versions of the titular superhero and each of them has become beloved by audiences. The film was such a success because of how each of these iterations was handled and how interesting the rest of the characters involved in the story were as well.

10 Peter A. Parker

The only reason that Peter A. Parker (Chris Pine) doesn't rank higher is that he barely gets screen time. When the movie begins, this is the Spider-Man that a young Miles Morales is familiar with and he's clearly the ideal version of the superhero in the prime of his crime-fighting life.

His heroics aren't the only reason why he's a great character, though. As soon as he discovers that Miles is like him, he promises to help mentor him despite being in the middle of a fight. Though he's unfortunately killed by Kingpin, it was clear that Peter A. Parker was a shining light of goodness.

9 Peni Parker

Also known as SP//dr, Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) is one of the many versions of Spider-Man seen throughout the film. She stands out due to her unique animation style and the robot that she goes on her adventures with. In fact, her friendship with the robot is an endearing factor of her personality.

When the robot is seemingly destroyed near the end of the film, the audience feels it. Alas, of the various Spider-People in the movie, Peni gets the least amount of shine. She doesn't get the chance to develop her character much or have meaningful interactions with others.

8 Peter Porker

Similar to Peni Parker, Peter Porker (John Mulaney) or Spider-Ham is someone who shows up as the rest of the Spider-People get together. He gets a slight edge as a character over Peni because he is given a bit more time to steal his scenes.

Porker is hilarious and makes jokes at almost every turn. From the way he talks about his power to float towards food just by its scent to the way he uses a cartoon hammer in action, Peter Porker is a highlight. There's not much more to him than what's on the surface but he's still fun.

7 Aaron Davis

Every Spider-Man story involves the character losing someone important to them. Typically, Peter Parker loses Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy lost Peter, and Peni lost her father. For Miles Morales, he also deals with the passing of his uncle, Aaron Davis (Mahershala Ali).

The twist was that Davis is also the Prowler, a villain who works for Kingpin. That gives him a complex relationship with Miles. You can tell that he genuinely cares for his nephew and it's his hesitation to kill him that leads to Kingpin shooting him. It all makes Davis a notable character.

6 Jefferson Davis

It's hard to find someone in this film who isn't either a superhero or a supervillain but Jefferson Davis (Brian Tyree Henry) manages to be that and leave a mark. He's Miles's father and a police officer who immediately makes it evident that he isn't a fan of Spider-Man.

In fact, you could say that he's similar to J. Jonah Jameson in that he finds Spider-Man to be something of a menace. Jefferson is interesting because he has a contentious relationship with his son but he's someone who wants nothing but the absolute best for him. Jefferson grows as things progress and accepts his son and Spider-Man in the end.

5 Wilson Fisk

In a film with so many superheroes, it can make it difficult for a villain to stand out. Despite that, Wilson Fisk (Liev Schreiber), or Kingpin, is one of the most prominent and memorable characters. His design is the first highlight as he takes up a huge part of the screen, hammering home how he is larger than life.

Fisk also gets a compelling backstory, even if it isn't seen in great detail. He attacked Spider-Man in front of his wife and child and his brutality caused them to leave him, which led to their death. His entire plan is to get versions of them from other universes, making him sympathetic in that manner but he goes too far in his actions.

4 Spider-Man Noir

Although he only arrives near the middle of the film with Peter Porker and Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) is arguably the best out of the three. His history is simple and in line with his fellow Spider-People but what makes him so great is how out of time he is.

His life is set in the '30s, so almost everything that he says or does feels like it doesn't belong. He's also in black and white, so something as basic as a Rubik's cube becomes hilarious when he attempts to use it. That allows Spider-Man Noir to be a highlight of the movie.

3 Peter B. Parker

Everything that Peter A. Parker was good at seems to have eluded Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) over time. Unlike his counterpart, this Peter Parker has been doing his job for over a decade and has seen both the highs and lows of what this life brings him.

He arrives in Miles's universe at a bad time for him including a split from Mary Jane. It makes him reluctant to help Miles but sometimes, the mark of a good character is seeing them grow into better people. The way that Peter B. Parker ultimately comes to see Miles as something of a son is sweet and it helps him fix his own life.

2 Miles Morales

As is often the case, the protagonist of a story is a fantastic character. Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is the heart of the film as a kid trying to find his place in the world, only to end up with superpowers that he's certainly not ready for. However, that doesn't stop him from trying.

Even though he's in over his head, Miles knows what the right thing to do is and he jumps into it. He's clearly a good person who cares about his friends and family. The way that Miles grows into a hero is one of the best parts of the story and makes him arguably the best Spider-Man in movie history.

1 Gwen Stacy

Take what works about Miles Morales and apply it to Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). She's also a good person who is caring and heroic. However, what sets her apart is that she's more experienced as Spider-Woman and it allows her to act as yet another mentor for Miles.

Not only does she help him become Spider-Man but she's a true friend to him in a way that almost nobody else is. Gwen is impressive as a fighter, extremely likable, has some of the movie's best moments, and is one of the best female superheroes ever put on screen.
