The Loki finale unleashes the Multiverse on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, creating a significant problem that's constantly getting overlooked. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino) finally reach the Citadel at the End of Time in the Loki finale. At the Citadel, the Loki variants meet He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). The character, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, is the mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority and the Sacred Timeline. Though he hasn't been seen before in the MCU, he's been secretly pulling strings all along.
He Who Remains gives the Loki variants a choice. The Kang variant explains that the TVA is the only thing keeping an infinite number of Kang variants from starting a Multiversal War. He gives the Loki variants the choice to either kill him and destroy the Sacred Timeline or take it over and run it for him. Loki is interested in the deal, but Lady Loki doesn't believe a word that He Who Remains says. She rejects the deal, sends Loki to an alternate version of the TVA, and kills the Kang the Conqueror variant. The move starts the Multiverse.
The Loki finale includes a troubling moment that's often overlooked. After Loki arrives at the alternate TVA, he finds Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) and explains that he and Lady Loki destroyed the Sacred Timeline. Unfortunately, Mobius and Hunter B-15 don't recognize Loki, asking him what TVA division he's from. Loki then notices a Kang the Conqueror statue, indicating that Kang is in charge of this version of the TVA. The scene is shocking, but the fact that Mobius doesn't recognize Loki is perhaps the most troubling detail of all.
In this timeline, the God of Mischief may not exist. Mobius and Hunter B-15 failing to recognize Loki indicates that the pair have no history with him. Loki's friendships he's developed at the TVA are entirely gone. However, even if Mobius isn't friends with Loki, he should still recognize Hiddleston's character as a variant of the God of Mischief. Because Mobius has no idea who Loki is, it means the God of Mischief may not exist in the current timeline. Kang may be systematically erasing the character from the MCU's Multiverse.
The scene has numerous troubling implications. In addition to Mobius missing out on a best friend, excluding Loki from the MCU carries devastating butterfly effects. According to the TVA, Loki's purpose was to lose, allowing other characters to achieve their best. Without the God of Mischief existing in the timeline, other characters who would oppose Kang may never meet their full potential. That means the Avengers might never gel as a team without Loki constantly losing in the MCU, and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) could fail to become worthy of Mjolnir. Furthermore, Kang the Conqueror could have a tyrannical hold over the MCU without the God of Mischief. For the timeline to get back on track, Loki variants need to exist again in Loki.
