Unlike other supernatural series that came before it, The Vampire Diaries became popular due to its ability to balance drama and humor. In some ways, it could be considered a dramedy, and the comedic aspect comes from the characters rather than the plot.
Because Damon's humor is more obvious and "in your face," other characters, such as Bonnie, are overlooked when it comes to funny one-liners. But Bonnie also has a great sense of humor, which is why she and Damon play off of each other so well. Her one-liners prove that she can be funnier than the other characters when given the chance.
10 "It's Called Dignity. Have Some. It's Free."
Bonnie is, hands-down, the strongest character in The Vampire Diaries. Every time she gets knocked down, she gets back up again. One of Bonnie's most admirable qualities is that she never compromises her morals, no matter who's asking her to do it.
She stands by all of her choices, and she maintains her dignity above all. This quip was especially funny directed towards Enzo, as Bonnie is even more mature than a vampire who's centuries-old.
9 "There's A Very Probable Chance You're Digging Your Own Grave And I'm Not Bothered."
Damon and Bonnie's love/hate relationship is a highlight of the later seasons. In fact, many fans claim there are scenes that prove Damon and Bonnie were soulmates in The Vampire Diaries.
Being trapped with only each other in the prison world was crazy enough, but when Kai was introduced, Damon and Bonnie met someone who had more sass than both of them combined. Their time in the prison world is one of the funniest storylines in the show, and Damon and Bonnie's bickering was priceless.
8 "Don't Be Bitter. It Provokes Wrinkles."
While it does sound a bit condescending, Bonnie does know how to get through to her best friend. Caroline has no problem being bitter and holding a grudge, and it's not a healthy thing for anyone to do. But Bonnie is always the one who talks sense into the people around her.
She warns Caroline not to be bitter because it provokes wrinkles, which is definitely something human Caroline would be concerned about. However, vampire Caroline doesn't need to worry about aging and can be bitter as often as she likes.
7 "You Just Found Our Your Boyfriend Is A Vampire. So Unless Your Birth Parents Are Aliens ..."
In one of the many book-to-show differences that no one talks about in The Vampire Diaries, Bonnie went through a personality change. However, before Bonnie finds out about the supernatural, her bubbly attitude is similar to her original adaptation.
It makes sense that Bonnie changed after realizing she was a witch, but she still didn't let her circumstances get the best of her. When Elena is scared to look into her birth parents, Bonnie points out that they can't get much worse than her boyfriend.
6 "You're In A Good Mood For The First Time This Decade."
The characters love to make fun of Damon's age, in particular, as even Elena has gotten in her fair share of quips. But Bonnie and Damon's entire relationship is a game of "who can annoy who more," which is what makes it so comedic and entertaining.
To be fair, Damon only ever seems to be in a bad move if he's gone off the rails. Otherwise, he's giving out nicknames and making fun of situations that should be taken seriously. But until the two of them get stuck in the prison world together, Damon and Bonnie were never happy in each other's presence.
5 "Please Be Hot."
Because they've never had a close relationship, it's easy to forget that Bonnie was talking about Stefan in this instance. When he first walked down the halls of Mystic Falls High School, it was in typical teen drama fashion. All Bonnie got a glimpse of was his back, but she could immediately tell he was good-looking.
She claimed that he had a "hot back," which takes viewers back to a simpler time. Bonnie standing outside the office begging for Stefan to be hot will always be funny due to the kind of relationship they ended up having.
4 "Surprising Since I've Seen Every Hunger Games."
Damon might be the master of sarcastic comments, but Bonnie is his partner in crime. Her personality evolved throughout the show and her sense of humor evolved with it.
It could be because Bonnie spent so much time with him, but Bonnie starts making some Damon-level remarks that make up many great quotes nobody talks about in The Vampire Diaries. When Rayna Cruz appears looking like someone out of The Hunger Games, Bonnie doesn't miss the opportunity to comment on it.
3 "What's A Seven Letter Word For "Kill Me Now"?
Bonnie became quite the fan of crossword puzzles in the prison world, but it's not like she had many ways to occupy her time. Damon's incessant pancake-making seemed to drive her up a wall, especially considering that Bonnie hates pancakes.
Given how much they disliked each other when they were first trapped, it's not surprising that everything Damon did made Bonnie lose her mind. The tone in which she delivers this line while Damon goofs off in the background brings this scene to a whole new level.
2 "This Clearly Isn't Peace. Otherwise, I Wouldn't Be Stuck Here With You."
Everything keeps coming back to Bonnie's time in the prison world, but it's where her character truly shines in terms of comedy. The funniest part of the situation is that Bonnie and Damon thought they might find happiness, but they ended up trapped in forced proximity to each other.
Bonnie makes a good argument when she says them being together is confirmation that they're not at peace. It's also ironic because Bonnie and Damon end up becoming best friends.
1 "If You're Asking Me To Go Steady, I Think That Was The '50s."
Although Enzo is arguably the best of Bonnie's love interests in The Vampire Diaries, she had some great moments with Jeremy as well. She didn't have the same hilarious dynamic with Jeremy as she did with Damon, but they were two different types of relationships.
Bonnie often poked fun at her boyfriend, and she was the more light-hearted of the two. When Jeremy was worried Bonnie would burn out from overusing her magic, she tried to crack a joke to make him feel better.
