Ubisoft has released a new trailer and update for Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead, a co-op roguelike game mode for Watch Dogs: Legion featuring zombies. As outlined on the Watch Dogs: Legion roadmap, Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead was launched in alpha, initially for PC players only. Starting today, however, players will now be able to face the undead who are terrorizing futuristic London as a free update on all platforms.
Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead is a standalone co-op survival game mode that players can partake in either solo or with three other players working together to survive and escape the hordes of the undead. It can be played in either private or public matchmaking. Like most other titles in the zombie survival genre, Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead includes resource management, supply gathering, power-ups, gadgets, and powerful weapons. The zombie game mode was added with the 5.5 title update which also introduced an Assassins Creed crossover that saw the popular historical franchise's assassins appear in Watch Dogs: Legion's dystopian setting.
Shown in a new trailer from Ubisoft, Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead tasks players with tackling the walking dead and finding supplies throughout London to escape alive. Not only are there legions of zombies to deal with, but players must also battle Albion soldiers and Clan Kelley forces who are hoarding valuable resources to survive themselves. Each successful run will grant "Z-Creds" which can then be used to prepare for the next supply run, allowing players to purchase powerful gadgets and weapons, some of which are only available for credits and cannot be looted as supplies. The new trailer focuses on various special powers, tools, and skills, some of which were pulled from the original game. The ad highlights the game's four-player co-op and ends with a confirmation that the new mode is available to players on all platforms as a free update.

Released earlier this year for PC players, Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead came as a surprise to players who were expecting the release of the Bloodline story expansion, which features the return of Aiden Pearce, the protagonist of the original game. While Watch Dogs: Legion was released last year to mixed reviews, Ubisoft has revived interest in the title thanks to its roadmap and the post-launch content it has added. While Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead was favorably received by PC players, Bloodline's launch went on to gain slightly better reception than the base game.
With Watch Dogs: Legion of the Dead marking the end of Year 1 content on the roadmap, Ubisoft may now be motivated to create more story expansions and game modes if reception continues to be positive for the game, potentially rejuvenating the title by continuing to release solid post-launch content.
Watch Dogs: Legion is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
