The timeline of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Ariela Weinberg and ex-husband Leandro’s marriage leading up to her meeting Biniyam Shibre has baffled TLC viewers. New Jersey native Ari has a close friendship with Leandro, who has even brought her bras when he’s come to stay with her in Ethiopia. In episode 2 of the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off, Biniyam’s suspicions about Ariela and Leandro’s closeness made him ask why they broke up. Fans have been perplexed after listening to Ariela’s shocking reason. Alongside that, fans don't understand how they were married for 10 years if baby Avi’s mom is now 29 years old.
It was revealed that Ariela was previously married to Leandro during her confessional on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 1. But the focus of the spin-off was on her moving to Ethiopia to give birth to her and Biniyam’s son, Aviel. Meanwhile, it was Biniyam’s past relationships with his ex-wife, Bria, who left him with their son, and his ex-girlfriend, who is his dance partner at work, that were discussed. However, on TOW season 2, Ariela opened up about Leandro, whom she called to her home as she was feeling isolated due to Biniyam. The Addis Ababa native saw that Ariela was dolled up to welcome Leandro and wasn’t wearing her engagement ring. Eventually, Biniyam figured the ex still had feelings for Ariela.
At the same time, reality TV favorite Ariela answered Biniyam’s question about why they still aren’t together by adding, “We never really broke up,” as Leandro explained it was “a decaying experience.” Meanwhile, “If Ariela is 29 and was married to Leandro for 10 years but has been with Bini for 2 years, she must've gotten married at 17?! Something doesn't add up,” asked Twitter user @NatMeyer. In a Reddit thread, fans discussed the “questionable” timeline of Ariela and Leandro’s relationship. Ari had mentioned that she was married at 19 for 10 years, but her current age is 29 and she’s been with Biniyam for more than a year, considering they may have met in 2019. “Her own timeline she created doesn’t quite add up and make sense,” a fan wrote, as another one was reminded of the fact that Ariela was separated for the last three years of her married life with Leandro.
It could have been that it was in those three years Ariela also went to Ethiopia on her solo trip and met Bini and perhaps filed for divorce after she met him, or when she found out she was pregnant. In Sunday’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way episode, she also comes clean about wanting to get back together with Leandro at some point and moving to Indiana, but she left as Ariela “wanted to travel the world” and explore and get to know herself better. “Oh, I’m not coming,” is what Ariela told Leandro, and she knew he was mad in the back of his mind. “I also thought we would eventually get back together again. That’s why I didn’t want to break up with him,” Ariela confessed to the cameras, calling the situation with Leandro a “hiatus.”
With Biniyam worried about Ariela leaving him, knowing this truth seems to have left him shaken. Ariela was scared of losing Leandro and did consider him as an option to go back to if things between her and Biniyam didn’t work out. But all the timeline confusion may have been water under the bridge for the 90 Day Fiancé pair as Biniyam and Ariela are still together and in America, with no Leandro repercussions in sight on social media.
