Amazon Prime: Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (September 20)

This week, Amazon Prime Video is adding a medieval fantasy film, an American drama, the final season of a legal drama, and a superhero movie. Although movie theaters are reopening across the world and studios are insisting on large theatrical releases, many viewers are still more comfortable waiting for the streaming release of new movies. This week, Amazon Prime subscribers can dive into the three films coming to the service as well as seeing the conclusion to a long-running TV show.

Last week Amazon made two older movies available to their Prime subscription holders for free. On September 14 they added the animated comedy Escape from Planet Earth, which features Hollywood comeback star, Brendan Fraser. On September 18 Prime added the adventure film Everest which is based on the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. The platform also saw the debut of two new movies, the film adaptation of a musical about a teenage drag queen, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and the French thriller The Mad Woman’s Ball.

Throughout each week, Amazon Prime adds several pieces of new content. These include Amazon Originals, movies that are making their first appearance on a streaming service after a theatrical release, and older movies that are now being added to Amazon’s Prime video offerings, making them free to view for subscribers. Here’s everything that is coming to Amazon Prime during the week of September 20.

The first new movie to be added to Amazon Prime this week will be The Green Knight. David Lowery’s medieval fantasy movie is based on a poem by an anonymous 14th-century author. The film follows Gawain (Dev Patel) who fights The Green Knight after he accepts a challenge from the latter and mystical forces put his life in jeopardy. The Green Knight saw a theatrical release in the United States on July 30, 2021, but will be added to Amazon Prime on September 24.

Birds of Paradise is an Amazon Original movie and is adapted from the 2019 novel Bright Burning Stars written by A.K. Small. The film follows two ballet dancers in Paris who must compete for a place in the Opéra national de Paris. Birds of Paradise stars Kristine Froseth as Marine and Diana Silvers as Kate and will debut on Amazon Prime on September 24.

Goliath tells the story of Billy McBride (Billy Bob Thornton) who was once a successful lawyer, but after a perceived failure became an alcoholic. The show has taken some interesting and fantastical turns in its most recent season which included Dennis Quaid and Amy Brenneman. The show is returning for its fourth and final season with all eight episodes on Amazon Prime on September 24.
