Warning: This article may contain major spoilers about Lucifer season 6.
Lucifer finally ended its run after three seasons on Fox followed by another three-season pick-up by Netflix. Fans were anxiously waiting to find out what would happen to the titular character as well as his friends, family, his love, Chloe, and other favorite characters on Lucifer.
The story ended in a satisfying way that didn't pretend to be a fairy tale nor focus on shock and awe. It was emotional, full circle, sweet, and sad, all wrapped into one. And while there were plenty of things that happened in the final episode that some fans had predicted, there were lots of surprising elements, too.
10 Lucifer And Chloe Have A Daughter
Lucifer had always expressed his distaste for children, calling them everything from "miscreants" to "burdens." It was odd, in fact, that he managed to develop such a close relationship with Trixie, marking one of the best friendships on Lucifer. So fans never expected that he and Chloe would end up having a child together.
Indeed, they did, and the mysterious young woman out to kill Lucifer from the trailer was revealed to be their own daughter visiting from the future. The young woman had Chloe's sweetness and Lucifer's rebellious nature, making her the perfect mix of mom and dad.
9 The Return Of Adam
Lucifer has brought so many characters from the Bible to the show, including Cain, Eve, and even God. But fans never expected to see Adam saunter in as he did, desperate to get Eve back after hearing of her antics on Earth and that she was about the get remarried.
While Adam, appearing as the epitome of machismo, was hilarious, the best line was delivered by Dr. Linda when he commented to her that she was "actually quite smart" and her reply: "drop the actually."
8 Ella Finds Love
While it was a positive surprise, it was one that fans weren't sure would happen before the series ended. Ella had bad luck with men and was often attracted to the wrong guys. Even when she tried to change her ways and go for the "good guy," he turned out to be a serial killer.
It seems, however, that Dan was able to help before his death by trying to set Ella up with his old friend Carol, who ended up being the new police chief. He did, indeed, seem like a genuinely nice guy and the pair appeared to be happy by the end, much to the delight of the fans.
7 Dan Comes Back To Earth As A Ghost
Fans were devastated by the loss of Dan in season 5, which was one of the most heartbreaking moments on Lucifer. They were worried they might not see him again and of the impact his death would have on Chloe and Trixie, as well as Amenadiel and Maze. But then, remembering the type of show Lucifer is, of course, Dan would still be around, albeit not in the same form.
Nonetheless, it was surprising that Dan wasn't only seen biding his time in Hell until he got make his way to Heaven, but he managed to go back to Earth, where he was a ghost for the entire final season (he was only seen and heard by other celestials and demons).
6 Charlie Gets Wings
When Linda first discovered she was pregnant, she was terrified about the unknowns. Scared of how the baby might look since he was half-angel, she proceeded to angel baby-proof the entire house, including wrapping the ceiling fan and other high above items with bubble wrap. But that was the last fans heard of the possibility after Charlie was born.
However, in a fast-forward scene from the final episode, Linda and Amenadiel are seen with Charlie celebrating a birthday. As he blows out his candles, wings sprout from his back. He will indeed have celestial features, which could have ended up becoming an interesting storyline if the show had more episodes to explore it in depth.
5 Lucifer Returns To Being The Devil
Some die-hard fans weren't so happy about the fact that the very characteristics that made Lucifer so charming would no longer be there if he became God. Fans suspected something would occur to prevent that from happening, but it was still a surprise to see Lucifer return to being the Devil.
Except this time around, his job wasn't to welcome and torture lost souls but rather to help them deal with their own guilt so they could finally ascend. Hell had become therapy and Lucifer took everything he learned from Dr. Linda to be his best, though still devilish, self.
4 Chloe Dies
While some fan theories about Lucifer on Reddit predicted that Chloe would die and go to Heaven, where she would have her happily ever after and spend eternity with Lucifer, this wasn't quite the case.
The story managed to combine both sweetness with sadness by dividing Lucifer and Chloe for 30+ years while she lived a full life on Earth as a single mom. Following her death, presumably in her 60s or 70s, Chloe reverted to her younger self and was escorted to Hell by Amenadiel, at her wishes, to be with Lucifer.
3 Amenadiel Becomes God
Fans had wondered from the beginning why Amenadiel didn't step up and take the position of God. He was the perfect person for the job, and apparently God's favorite son. Amenadiel had some great powers on Lucifer as well, including the ability to slow time and even resurrect the dead. He was the eldest, had a strong moral sense of right and wrong, and genuinely wanted to help people.
It seemed, however, that Amenadiel had found a route to make change on Earth by becoming a police officer. So, it was surprising that, after all of his transformations, Amenadiel finally realized it was his destiny to take over – but handle things in a new way.
2 The Guilt That Sent Dan To Hell
When Chloe and the others discovered that Dan was in Hell not Heaven, they couldn't figure out why. People are sent there by their own guilt, so what was he guilty about? Especially since, right before his death, Dan finally seemed to be coming to terms with things and becoming a better person.
It turns out that what Dan was still feeling guilty about being a bad father. But when he took over a criminal's body and managed to chat with Trixie under the guise of being an old friend of her dad's, he finally heard the words he needed to hear: that Trixie idolized him, felt he was an amazing father, and did not look down on him for his mistakes.
1 Lucifer Leaves Chloe
It seemed unheard of that Lucifer would ever leave Chloe given how much he felt for her. Lucifer did some sweet things for Chloe over the years that proved how deeply in love with her he was. But the fact he would leave became even more puzzling after the discovery that he not only left her but also his unborn daughter.
As it turned out, it was true, but there was a valid reason. He found his true calling and he had to follow it. Chloe, too, understood, and that is what made their love story one of the best on television: even though Chloe knew she would have to live her entire life on Earth without him, however long that may be, it was worth it because she knew she would get to spend eternity with him.
